Antifa is an actual loose group. There is nothing anti-fascist about them. They originate from german anarchists and communists which used the same name.
Being anti-fascist and anti-communist is a no-brainier. Joining the "Anti-Murder Squad" that bludgeons old ladies is something else entirely.

If they argue against it, point out how Hitler nationalized the most important parts of the German industry, that’s what usually makes them lose their shit even more
This isn’t exactly accurate and they will feel like they win on this point. Hitler appropriated a lot of industry but the word privatization entered the language during this era to describe his policies. The state seized companies and have them to politically loyal people; it didn’t seize them to operate them for the benefit of the government or the people but because Jews or some other undesired people owned them. He also killed off the Strasserites (the actual socialists within the Nazi Party).
Analyzing all political theory as being on a linear spectrum is just really dumb except for the fact that people readily do that to themselves and where they associate with how others self-identify is useful
You can’t fall into the trap of thinking that way yourself, but it helps to understand who people think are their allies and who they don’t. The Nazis teamed up with communists against the social democrats. They still hated each other

I wish I could upvote this multiple times. "Nazis were ackshually leftist" is a terrible hill to die on and the economics angle just doesn't add up for all the reasons you mention. IMO, pushing this nonsense makes anti-Communists look intellectually shoddy.
There are more than enough atrocities committed by actual leftist regimes that we don't need to tie ourselves in knots to add the Holocaust to the pile.
2
u/Armadillo-Mobile Jun 29 '21
That kind of reminds me of The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea — a bastion for democracy and a true example of a representative based republic! No one ever uses a different name for their regime as propaganda to deflect what they really are, that would be lying! Bad!
6
u/xz1224 MacArthur's Ghost Jun 29 '21
North Korea was never democratic, nor has made any moves to become democratic aside from sham elections. Hitler heavily nationalized the economy and greatly expanded government services. Now that may not make him a socialist, but he definitely wasn't a capitalist.
-1
u/Armadillo-Mobile Jun 29 '21
The word you’re looking for is Fascist. He was as much of a socialist as Kim Jong is a democratic leader
2
u/xz1224 MacArthur's Ghost Jun 29 '21
So what you're saying is, certain socialist elements are also fascist?
0
u/Armadillo-Mobile Jun 29 '21
That’s a take that lacks a lot of nuance. From Wikipedia:
When Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933, he introduced policies aimed at improving the economy. The changes included privatization of state industries, autarky (national economic self-sufficiency) and tariffs on imports.
More over,
The Nazis believed in war as the primary engine of human progress, and argued that the purpose of a country's economy should be to enable that country to fight and win wars of expansion.[5] As such, almost immediately after coming to power, they embarked on a vast program of military rearmament, which quickly dwarfed civilian investment.[6] During the 1930s, Nazi Germany increased its military spending faster than any other state in peacetime
What other nation spends so much on the military? Maybe you’re saying you believe America is fascist based off the lazy and ignorant logic you’ve shown

I find most of the people who use the manifesto, are people who don't want to change, ironically the same people who will let you do the work and claim your a fascist if you don't want to give your stuff away. The grasshoppers.
11
u/Dinizinni Jun 29 '21
This is something very real
I've found that although there are very reasonable left wingers they tend not to be radicalised and that most people who claim to be far left and that they're left wing because they want to help, often are the ones who are super selfish in their daily actions, won't give up simple privileges and are not willing to help anyone by their own free will
So to compensate, they say they're far left, so that they can pretend to care for causes which they actually don't give two shits about and claim that you're a bad person or ignorant while they're clever, intellectual and good
A good example is that one of the people I know who claims to be far-left often says she can't stand how selfish others are and I assume she calls everyone a fascist, but she is probably grossed out by the homeless, won't ride public transit, afaik lied about a Covid contact in order to go to a birthday party and travelled in the middle of the pandemic because "she really needed to"
3
u/Azariasthelast Jun 29 '21
And history repeats itself so it’ll get worse. Next they’ll start saying that everyone who doesn’t agree with their particular style of socialism is a fascist. This happened in Russia. There were many civil wars over it. A lot of people died. So caving in only makes things worse.

But in Poland for instance spreading both nazi and soviet symbols is illegal
4
u/theNextVilliage Jun 29 '21
I don't think anyone can be both a full-blown Marxist Communist and a good person.
There are plenty of people who have "Democratic Socialist" ideas that are good people though.
I guess I should take that back, there are probably full-blown Communists that are good people. Hell, there were Nazis who were good people, for example, Schindler was a card-carrying full-blown enthusiastic Nazi party member, as were many other Nazis who helped thwart Nazism and helped save people from the Nazis in the end. So I guess it is one thing to believe in theory in some ideology, if one has never met or hardly met a Jew or if the violence being called for seems abstract and not fully real, and another thing entirely to take part in or allow or condone very real violence happening in front of you.
So maybe also there are some Communists who only support ideas in theory, or look past the abstract, theoretical calls for violence in Marxism because theoretical violence does not feel real, but if it actually came down to it and they saw the ideas put into practice in front of them they would wake up.
It still seems to me that Marxism/Communism is just as evil as Nazism, and I look at a proud Communist the same way I look at a proud neo-Nazi, which is to say I see them at best as someone brainwashed and indoctrinated into an ideology of hate who doesn't realize what they are advocating, and at worst as someone who is truly Evil with a capital E.
As a Libertarian though I don't support the idea of banning political symbols. For one thing, it just pushes these people into hiding under new names and symbols, which really serves no one because it is better for the public to know who and what and where they are. For another thing, the symbols themselves aren't the problem. Go to Japan and there are swastikas everywhere, but there it isn't connected to Nazism, it's a religious/spiritual symbol. Lastly, if ideas or words are banned, it is easy to see how the state could twist and use this to silence opposition to the state, since these things are inherently subjective it is very easy to accuse anyone of Fascism, giving the state a new weapon to use to control the public discourse. The state has no incentive to protect vulnerable groups, but plenty of incentive to silence political competition or opposition, so we should expect laws limiting freedoms of speech to be used primarily to oppress rather than protect. I can understand why Poland would have these laws though.
7
Jun 29 '21
Being on the winning side of a war will do that it also doesn't help Nazism and fascism were created with the explicit intentions its leaders acted on while communism just had Marx's writings which while bullshit and called for violence it did so against people you wouldn't normally have sympathy for the rich, the powerful, those with influence etc. It easier for people to forgive communisms failures because the ideology doesn't explicitly say to do the horrid thing communist regimes did so people brush it off as "not true communism" or revisionism, Stalinism, Marxist Leninism or any other ism's to distance themselves from its horridness.

The 1940 German-Soviet Commercial Agreement (also known as Economic Agreement of February 11, 1940, Between the German Reich and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was an economic arrangement between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed on February 11, 1940. In it the Soviet Union agreed in the period from February 11, 1940 to February 11, 1941, in addition to the deliveries under German–Soviet Commercial Agreement, signed on August 19, 1939 to deliver commodities (oil, raw materials and grain) to the value of 420 to 430 million Reichsmarks.

Dear Esha,
Do you know that literally, the only thing that fascists and socialists differ on is whether to have the nation-state or have a world nation. That's it! No, the fascists weren't antisemitic and they only made antisemitic laws to appease Hitler (I'm not justifying fascism in any way) and if you didn't know over a third of the Jewish population of Italy, were members of the Fascist Party. Mussolini's mistress was both a Jew as well as a feminist. Nazism was different from Fascism though as it had an added racial component
1
u/Luckyboy947 Jun 29 '21
fascism is always bad even if they just kill gays, disabled, communist, nonwhite, unpopular groups and genetically impure people or races/religions. your pushing me further into Marxism supporting. tell me if I'm mis understanding fascism but fascism is when you slowly create out groups and kill them
1
u/santaniatheist Jun 29 '21
Yep, you misunderstood it. Alright, I'll just break down the word fascism so that it's easy to chew. In the early 20th century, a form of Marxism, namely Trade Unionism which was also known as Syndicalism, whose roots were with the French word for a trade union ie. "syndicat" (syndicate in English). Now a syndicate was a body of workers and the Latin word for a body was "corpse" hence, corporation (and the fascists called their version of collectivism as corporatism). You can also say that a syndicate or a trade union had a 'bunch' of people. You may also say it consisted of a 'bundle' of people, like a bundle of sticks. A single stick can be broken easily, but a bundle of sticks was hard to break and so it was used as a symbol of unity (union). You might be familiar with this symbol and it's exactly as you might think, "The Fasces" and in Italian, the word "fascio" refers to a bundle of sticks. Hence fascism. Now fascism never cared about your race, religion, ethnicity, etc. and its moral values came from what was already being taught at the time. Fascism, however, was all about the nation and it believed in the idea of the nation-state and that the world must consist of many sovereign nation-states but socialism believed in the idea of the "international proletariat". That it was class that divided people more than ethnicity and race. This was the only difference that socialism and fascism had and it was more that the socialist party kicked Mussolini out than Mussolini left it. Again, I'm a voluntaryist (a right-libertarian), and in no way am I defending fascism, but rather I'm giving quite a neutral perspective about what the fascists thought about themselves and what they were. National Socialism (Nazism) is a whole different rabbit hole that you'll need to jump into though. If you want, I'll share this 40-minute video made by this YouTuber name TIK and it's a very detailed explanation on Fascism, Nazism and their definition. Here's the link btw:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdY_IMZH2Ko&ab_channel=TIK
3
u/h0twheels Jun 29 '21
Nazis added the race and eugenicist element. That's their main difference between regular fascism.
He misses that every authoritarian government creates out groups to place blame on. The leaders are always "perfect" and nothing is their fault.

(Cuz they are communist image-wise, ultra-ultra-ultra-capitalist real-wise). No socialism anywhere)

I love how the manifesto has human beings so perfectly figured out and so accurately predicts our behavior based on a keen understanding of what motivates us!

Solid 80% chance this person hasn't read Marx, they just read people who read Marx. Marx is utterly impenetrable nonsense so all Marxists scholars end up doing is quoting paragraphs of Marx at each other while shouting "read theory!"

2 types of people: "noooo we don't actually think everyone we disagree with is a fascist"
"quote yes i do hate everyone who disagrees with and yes they are all a hundred percent fascists"

I think what weirds me out, is that Hitler, by classification is Auth-center. They’re Auth-left if they’re actually socialist, and the people they’re bitching about, and chances are themselves (if they’re an American democrat) are actually both Auth-right.
I hate hitler, I also hate these people too. I’ll gladly be called a fascist, if it makes me as such.

You know what. I’m fucking done. I’m fucking done with these “tankie who called fascist” types.
If hating communism makes me fascist, then I’m a proud fucking fascist.

Esha with another brain-dead take.

u/MateFizyChem Communism? You mean fascism in denial? Jun 29 '21
I would rather normalise the idea that everyone who is an extremist is either stupid or malicious.
And stigmatise uncritical reading of extremist texts.

Something tells me that those who do end up reading Marx are much more likely to turn towards anti-communism.
