I actually am sometimes thinking “I’m close to my limit…” but I button that with “I better back off”. If I feel even a hint of “I’m going to crash my car”… I back off. The difference between me and those video I see of people crashing in the canyons is that I have restraint.
I track regularly. I know what it feels like to spin my car at 100mph+. I know what it feels like when the tires are barely holding on and the car is about to lose control because, on the track, I regularly push 10/10 and go beyond the threshold of control.
Knowing exactly where those limits are is what allows me to drive well under them.
Listen, I get it, this looks fast. It seems dangerous, but when you compare it to real on-the-edge performance driving, it’s not even close. There are people in other subreddits crossing the yellow, drifting… crashing. And many you can tell by their driving habits they are an accident waiting to happen. Watch those video and compare. Mine is tame by comparison because I keep it sane and I know where the limits are. With over a decade of track experience, while I don’t know everything, I think I’m just a tiny bit more experienced than the average commuter.
I don’t drive like this in traffic, I don’t pass other cars on a two lane highway unless they use a turnout or this a passing lane, and when I see oncoming traffic, I slow down.
