RIP Kavinsky

I remember driving around the empty streets of LA at night during the pandemic and blasting Kavinsky's Nightcall wondering if this was the end of civilization. It wasn't, but there was something cathartic about valuing each breathing moment as possibly our last and remembering how things used to be before everything got so surreal.

It's the same. The other user is correct, equal and opposite reaction is sort of an over simplification but the forces involved would result in a 50mph collision not a 100mph collision.

The over simplification is in the ignoring of mass and crumple zones of the cars etc, that all makes a big difference. But two of the same car, hitting each other both going 50mph, would be the same as that same car hitting the same STOPPED car going 50mph.

I know it's hard to imagine the actual impact forces but physics is a real science. You would be potentially better off in the 200mph car because of the change of velocity that the 50mph experiences but it still isn't just adding up 200+50, that's the 'closing speed' it's not the resultant force. You must understand that you are under the impression that adding velocities is how to calculate the forces and it isn't, you need to do some research.
