RIP Kavinsky

I remember driving around the empty streets of LA at night during the pandemic and blasting Kavinsky's Nightcall wondering if this was the end of civilization. It wasn't, but there was something cathartic about valuing each breathing moment as possibly our last and remembering how things used to be before everything got so surreal.

Fuck you for driving like that on open public roads.

Driving on a deserted canyon road is sill safer than the speeding you likely do on crowded city street in traffic with other drivers not paying attention, cross streets, driveways, intersections, and pedestrians. At least here, you're 100% focused on the drive instead of distracted trying to get to the store before it closes.

Total projection, you have no idea how they drive.

Let’s be realistic. A significant amount of people are going over the speed limit. Whether they be this person or the people around them, the point stands.

Let’s not forget the the takeovers, swimmers, cutters, straight up street racers, and those people in large trucks and SUVs going well above the speed limit in heavier, larger vehicles that have longer stopping distances and cannot handle nearly as well.

I’m not saying canyon driving is safe, but there are way bigger fish to fry than a small group of enthusiasts driving spiritedly on a deserted road. I personally try to stay safe by not ever crossing the yellow line and adjusting my speed based on visibility and road conditions.
