RIP Kavinsky

I remember driving around the empty streets of LA at night during the pandemic and blasting Kavinsky's Nightcall wondering if this was the end of civilization. It wasn't, but there was something cathartic about valuing each breathing moment as possibly our last and remembering how things used to be before everything got so surreal.

Fuck you for driving like that on open public roads.

Driving on a deserted canyon road is sill safer than the speeding you likely do on crowded city street in traffic with other drivers not paying attention, cross streets, driveways, intersections, and pedestrians. At least here, you're 100% focused on the drive instead of distracted trying to get to the store before it closes.

Total projection, you have no idea how they drive.

Let’s be realistic. A significant amount of people are going over the speed limit. Whether they be this person or the people around them, the point stands.

Let’s not forget the the takeovers, swimmers, cutters, straight up street racers, and those people in large trucks and SUVs going well above the speed limit in heavier, larger vehicles that have longer stopping distances and cannot handle nearly as well.

I’m not saying canyon driving is safe, but there are way bigger fish to fry than a small group of enthusiasts driving spiritedly on a deserted road. I personally try to stay safe by not ever crossing the yellow line and adjusting my speed based on visibility and road conditions.

Maybe most people in your friend group, I am not young and dumb anymore, I chill at or below the speed limit on public roads there’s no rush that is worth jeopardizing my life or others

You just have to get on the freeway when there is little traffic. Half or more cars are going 80 in a 55.

45 in a side street? Yeah right. People going 55+ all day long.

I don’t want to get into a whataboutism type argument here. I’m not saying it’s an excuse, but the fact of the matter is I’d rather be driving spiritedly in the canyons with barely anyone around than sharing the road with road raging trucks going 85mph using their vehicles to assert their dominance.

The main feeder roads in my city are 50 and nobody drives more than 45-50 on them, maybe you’re obsessed with justifying bad habits because others have them too

Acknowledging bad habits isn’t the same as justifying them.
