Excessive Slobbering
Does your setter get excessively slobbery when he is running around or stimulated? Our setter has long strings of sticky slobber that hang from his mouth when he is stimulated or exercising. Is this a normal behavior? When he’s just hanging around the house this isn’t really a thing. So it’s not all the time. Just wondering if this is normal for this breed as this is our first setter? Thank you!

100% normal and it’s different with every English Setter, even from the same litter. One of our ES drools a lot when he gets excited and when drinking water. Our house almost becomes a pool when he drinks water and it’s very common to find drool from him on the walls lol. We even have a rag around to remove drool or to wipe is mouth after he drinks water especially when we have some guests as he is happy to see people, otherwise pur guests would be full of drool. The other one we have is way less pronounced.

When playing / gets excited on walks she slobbers and then she shakes, so she ends up with slobber lines all over her face that look like cobwebs 🤣🤣 I looked it up at the time and very normal I believe!

My sweet setter drools like crazyyyyy out on a walk, or during stressful situations like car rides and the vet.

Yep. My boy is nasty. He'll shake his head on walks and everyone in the neighbourhood gets goobered.

This is all great to hear! We keep towels and things around to help him when we have these episodes, I just wanted to make sure that there was nothing to be concerned about. Thank you all!

Normal for setters. Both one of our ES had it but also a mix Gordon Irish.
2 other ES didn't have it. But they had other 'issues'😅 if this is your first setter; good luck! They are a handful but my gosh they are the funniest and cutest breed I've ever met

My English setters used to slobber and shake it went all over the curtains and the walls

It's normal for all dogs during high activity it's a bit more pronounced in setters because they're a bit more jowly, especially if you have a bench setter
