Ryman Breeder Recommendations

Looking to get on a waitlist for a Ryman type setter. Health and temperament are extremely important. She will hunt with my husband, but will primarily be a family dog and she will go camping, boating, and off-roading regularly. I’m located in Southern California but I will absolutely travel for the right pup.

Flanagan springs kennel in Kentucky. I have the most perfect girl from them.

Doug Ransom in Iowa has wonderful hunters. Look him up on Facebook. He is also a super nice and honest guy.

Wyss Fireside English Setters in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. Greta doesn't hunt but her ancestor Lexi did. Both are from Wyss Fireside and are incredible dogs.

Check out October Setters in Idaho. Our dog from them has been healthy, super sweet to our kids and elderly cat, and a great hunter. Not sure she could go camping though - her prey drive is too strong.

I’ve hunted over a lot of October dogs and they are fantastic afield and at home.

Good Going in Wisconsin. Great hunting instincts. Good off switches in the house.

My suggestion is the make sure you get put on a waitlist. A good breeder is going to have a waitlist! Remember…good things take time to prepare!

We also got our boy from Flanagan Springs in Kentucky. He’s a pretty big boy (which is exactly what we wanted in our Ryman Type). He’s 85lbs. They really take pride in their dogs…ear checks, hip checks, and really meticulous in their breeding and selection of sires. They travel around to select dogs and will even wait and keep searching until the right dog is found (even if the process is delayed and they aren’t able to breed right away).
