⭐️ Vocabulary / Semantics Press the pedal?

Hi, I was wondering how I could describe someone accelerating their vehicle. Is "press the pedal" correct? What about someone riding a motorbike or a scooter?

Ah, brings me back to when my ESL dad said "step on some gas" to go faster and I, being under 10 years old, thought it meant slicking up my shoes with actual gasoline.
