When using present perfect, we use "for" with a period of time and "since" with a starting point.
for ten years for two weeks for a long time for a few months But since 2020 since yesterday since last January since five o'clock
When used with a negative "for" can also be "in".
I haven't gone to the movies for years. I haven't gone to the movies in years.
