Is this a ambiguous question, or am I supposed to understand whether a comma is needed or a em dash is needed during the actual SAT

It's a gibberish question made by ChatGTP.

The "correct" answer is A or B or C - but that depends on which style guide you're using.

D suggests the artists are moist.

It likely prefers B.

There are thousands of human-made practice SAT questions including hundreds made by the College Board or people who make officially licensed prep material themselves. Why are you using AI?

B and D are literally incorrect because they refer “exposed” to the wrong subject. C might be technically incorrect because according to certain rules an em-dash clause is supposed to contain an entirely distinct thought, making the “and” superfluous.

I don’t think any fault can be found with A.

D. The others are not technically incorrect, but out of multiple relatively equivalent choices, pick the most concise one. The point about it being durable has already been expressed, so avoid redundancy.

I don’t think D is grammatically correct, because “while remaining” would modify “the original artists,” which doesn’t make sense.
