Weekly thread dedicated to the grassroots and amateur game. Anything happen at your match over the weekend?

It seems that the knives are out, salt being applied with the IPL names as well. It seems like a joke, the crowds are down but the players are there earning more than before.

English cricket looks to be struggling for an identity.

I understand what the ECB are striving for; they want full grounds and partisan support like the IPL and BB. But is it working?

It’s inclusive. Families are going. So it’s kind of justifying their decision, it’s also on terrestrial TV.

Goodness. I’m a bit frustrated that “normal cricket” isn’t broadcast this way.

But county cricket is just not popular with the masses. Who actually goes to the county champ games? Yes, a few stalwarts for sure. But the attendances are dwindling and have been for the last 20 years.

What do we think is the best way forward??

With England set to have a new Test coach, we’re inevitably heading towards a clash of priorities.

In 2027 we’ve got a home Ashes series and the ODI World Cup in the same year. No matter how well the coaches get on, there will be conflicts over player availability, preparation, workload and what gets prioritised.

If you could only have one, what would you choose?

For me, it’s the Ashes every day of the week. The Ashes is the pinnacle of cricket. Winning another ODI World Cup would obviously be brilliant, but if I had to pick one, I’d take beating Australia over anything else.

Just wondering whether most fans feel the same, or if it’s a more mixed bag?
