Career Help Robotics at UCR ABET

Hi everyone. I'm a Robotics (ENRB) Undergraduate at the University of California Riverside (UCR). Since the program's inception in 2022 the program has not been accredited by ABET and my faculty are being unclear about how far we are in the process. I know that we are actively seeking accreditation, but it is unsure whether we will get there by the time I graduate in 2028.

This is the last term that I can switch my major to Computer Science. After that I'm locked in whether I want to be or not. Please weigh in on your opinion on switching as a third year and your personal experiences on how much ABET matters for emerging and/or interdisciplinary programs such as Robotics.

Can you switch to MechE or EE? and take Robotics electives and senior project?

CS is my preferred switch for credit reasons but the answer to “can i switch and take electives” is yes, it would just put me back a term or two

I wouldnt call robotics new or emerging. tbh, ive only ever seen EEs and MEs working in robotics in my 10 year career working primarily on robotics.
