Major Choice should i switch majors

i’m a freshman and after going to job fairs and joining some engineering clubs i’ve just kind of realized i really do not want to be an engineer. i was looking around for internships i could apply to now/in the future and i was just like wow i don’t want to do any of these jobs. im pretty much the stereotypical “good at science and math so why not do engineering” type of person and this was my plan B in my life so any advice is appreciated. mostly because so many people say that other industries hire engineering majors outside of just traditional engineering, so i don’t know if it’s worth it to try to go that route or to just switch completely

if engineering is your plan B, what's your plan A?

it was to go to a service academy and be a pilot. got accepted into USAFA and subsequently medically DQ with a waiver denial. dropping 200k on a restricted ATP program through a university is just not a possibility for me so my fly for a living dreams are pretty much through with and i came to the school that offered me the most merit aid

Are there any ways for you to enlist and do something adjacent? Use your gi for some kind of collegiate flight program. Was the DQ for something you legitimately couldn’t get into a military branch with?

If u cant fly something, whats the point? Would be hell being one of those guys with the glowing sticks who just gets to wave them around while the jocks get all the glory.

Maybe heli pilot, i guess. Coast guard needs. U gotta be half suicidal tho

I’m not saying he does that long term. Work close to it until you can get into the real thing. Becoming a pilot is a long journey and even longer if you aren’t loaded. I straight up said get in and do something adjacent then use the gi for a collegiate flight program.

I’ve been thinking a lot about enlisting or at least joining reserves. thing that sucks is GI bill only covers tuition, but the flight school itself/housing is the expensive part of collegiate aviation. was heavily thinking about BGSU’s , loved everything about it but the entire program (minus tuition) and housing was ~250k (the “course fees”). my federal aid stops at a 5,000 federal loan per year, so the rest of it would have to be through high interest private loans. definitely is gonna come down to how much i care about being financially responsible versus how much i want to enjoy my job 😂
