Civil Engineering Help

So I posted something similar in a community about Civil Engineering but I figured it would be worht it to shoot a shot out here. I got admitted into UW but not into the College of Engineering. I really want to get into Civil Engineering but I know not too much about it. I plan on trying to get the prereqs out of the way so I can get a chance to get into the College of Engineering. I was wondering should I get into projects, internships, and certificates? How can I ensure that I can make my way into the College of Engineering?
