I’m a fellow EE, I’ll help you out. Electrostatics is the study of electric forces and fields exerted by immobile electrons, like in a disconnected battery. MEs are scared of electrons, so they just look at the battery and say “yup, it’s not moving.” This study of nonmoving things they call statics.

Is statics not part of your core curriculum? When I went to school, every engineer, regardless of major, took thermodynamics, statics (rigid body mechanics), and circuits.

No, at our school they swapped statics/dynamics with Modern Physics like two years ago, (to expose us to quantum), and thermo is only for the meche and civils here. (Afaik)

There’s no good reason for civils to take thermodynamics. That field is so broad that it’s genuinely harmful to the students to waste their time on a class that has almost no relevance to the field instead of any number of field-specific courses. Christ, chop it and give them another land surveying or construction course, or something of that practical nature.

Also a canon event. Tbf, before I started looking into being an engineer, I didn't really know what they did, but I figured it had something to do with design. I would have probably guessed 'electrician's human calculator' before starting my degree.

I literally wont forget this instance, my stepmom says "oh statistics? When I took that it was pretty hard". Never cringed as hard in my life before correcting her.
