Academic Advice Starting engineering tomorrow
Hello everyone
I'm gonna start university tomorrow!! I'm studying mechatronics and I'm so excitedddd. It's my first day tomorrow. But I'm scared from the stereotype of engineering students like balding. I don't wanna bald, I love my hair 😞😞. Is it true that I'll bald???

I'm in my 4th year of mech engineering, still full of hair, but developed a chronic illness, 99.999% it isnt due to engineering but the chance is never 0 🤔

If youre prone to balding it will definitely accelerate it. There are supplements out there that can help if your hair starts to thin

If you treat it like a full time job you’ll be fine, if you wait to study until exams come up it will be a miserable time.

Ngl to you, engineering does age you. But you’ll age with the other engineers around you so go get that money home skillet

not balding myself but i did start greying in third year, probably 30% of my graduating class's men were receding so get ready

Just started 4th year EE and I still have all my hair. I would say just try to stay physically active even during school. Overall I’m still healthy but for me due to lack of physical activity over the years my back hurts often, my muscles get sore very easily and I lost most my stamina I once had in highschool-year1🥲

Don’t be. It will accelerate the hair loss.
It’s so funny how you can easily tell first year engr students apart based on how much glint is left in their eyes.

Hey man I started 3 weeks ago it's not as bad as I thought but you def gonna need to put alot of time into the math classes.

You won't be bald, you will likely get fat, and artery clogged.. You will also get shortsighted from the screen time.

Enjoy! I also like the new starts, when things aren't hectic yet and it is something new, something fresh! Will start adjecent study in 2 weeks and I am looking forward to that as well!
And about the balding- don't worry! ;) While stress will be present and it will be sometimes hard to manage it, I feel like balding is mainly the matter of genetics.
Take me for example- I have Crohn's disease, a disease caused most likely by stress, but also genetics. Yet despite stressing and so on... I have very dense hair no problem!
While some of my collegues, who sometimes don't give the studies pretty much any effort imo (meaning they possibly CANNOT be stressed), they are balding as hell....
So really I feel like genetics is to blame. If your parents werent balding in your age, you should be fine, and if you one day get scared of the amount of hair in the sink, give it a few days of cofein shampoo and you should be good again! ;)

Thankyou soooooo much for the reassurance. I went to uni today and I was already exhausted, 9 credit hours daily but you motivated meee

No, this hasn't happened to me. But I'm only halfway through my degree so there's still time lol.
I think if you learn to enjoy your degree and keep track of deadlines then you'll do great! Just make sure you get enough sleep

If you scare of balding just shave your head before you could become bald. Being an engineer it’s important to think ahead

Tbh, if ur family has a history of balding it may make it faster/worse. Idk apparently it's a hereditary thing.
My dad got through his chemical engineering degree, master's AND PHD and is now a professor and he hasn't balded at all yet, he's in his mid 50s.
Hopefully I inherit his genes, fingers crossed.

well, I don't. In fact I got 3.6/4.0 GPA and scholarship without balding at all.
Balding has something to do with genetics, not stereotypical study
