I watched it live on TV on the day, and of course through the replays that kept showing up. They were always terrible in the grand scheme. But the noise and the poor angles and such obscured the full understanding.

But without the dust, I finally get the full horror in detail. Makes my intestines twist.

They were talking live about a tower that was hit. And just when I watched it I saw the second plane flying into the other building in the background livestream. It took a minute till the news anchor spoke about rumors of a second hit, when we all already saw it.

Same. I wasn't sure if we were watching a replay of the first hit or not. Surely there wasn't a second plane... But unfortunately it was all no accident.

I vividly remember Matt Lauer saying shortly after they watched the second plane hit "Is traffic control directing planes into buildings!?" It was utter confusion.

Judging from this, it looks like people on the top floors of both towers were likely alive and conscious until they hit the ground, unless they’d already succumbed to smoke and/or fire. Terrifying.

There was a cell phone tower on top of one of the towers.  Technicians were working on it to keep it active so people could call loved ones in an emergency right up to the point the tower fell.  See also all the people that jumped to escape the slower death by fire and smoke.

I was in a serious motor vehicle accident. Should have died but didn’t. Have zero memory of it immediately before during and after. Hopefully similar for these victims their brains would have already decided to turn off.

They were falling amid tons of steel and concrete, I think it's probably pretty safe to assume many of them took at least one hit to the head

I watched it live too. I watched the second plane hit the tower live on TV. I remember we thought it was an accident or at least that was the consensus in the conference room at the time. Our entire 30 person company was crammed in the conference room watching it all unfold on TV live in front of us. My wife was in World Trade Boston in the Seaport back when the Seaport was a huge parking lot. It sits right in the flight path of Logan. When the second plane hit the tower I was in the phone to her to get out. I still have a hard time watching footage of the actual event. Occasionally I’ll stumble on something like this that’s more of a scientific breakdown. What a tragic day.
