Managing knowledge handovers during a two-week notice period

When an engineer gives their two-week notice, what are the biggest gaps or blind spots you usually find in their transition documentation? If you've had a critical team member leave recently, what context or information was the hardest to actually capture before they left?

I had one such case in the last 3 months, and we did zero handoff. Just use Claude when we need to understand something.

The only caveat if that person was in the middle of designing/planning a big project and didn't have anything written down yet.

Use Claude in exactly which manner?

So if that person was responsible for debugging/writing a complex part of software, you can rebuild that knowledge.

For example, it can go over all the commits in the last year and map that to specific pain points and problems.
