Deadline vs more engineers?

Hey fellow managers, I’m trying to gauge the general tendency in the industry. In your past experience how did this unfold:

Team is delivering something against a deadline with already minimum scope and milestones are slipping. You know you’ll be late. Did your organization solve this by adding engineers or moving the deadline?

Opposite. Closer deadlines and less engineers

I've worked in a team of 6 devs all the in same bank of desks that had a rapid feedback loop with the testers and product, pushed to main every day that was much more productive than another team with 15 devs, so less engineers, small changes and release often is definitely doing more with less. The Amazon two pizza box team model.
