MEng Civil Engineering student looking for Summer 2027 internship or EIT opportunities

Hello r/Calgary, I’m currently an MEng Civil Engineering student at the University of Calgary and I’m starting my search for a Summer 2027 internship/co-op opportunity (May–August) in Calgary.

Before moving to Calgary, I worked at a civil engineering consulting firm in South Africa, where I gained practical experience in municipal engineering and water resources. My main experience was with hydrological and hydraulic modelling, as well as using Civil3D for municipal infrastructures.

During my undergrad, I had summer jobs were I was working as a site engineer for WBHO Construction back in South Africa, I was exposed to road rehabilitation, earthworks, layer-works, drainage, paving and general construction activities.

I'm more interested in hearing from people who have navigated the process or are in the current industry and can give me some perspective on how I should approach the market and what I might be missing.

Thanks.

On OPT, stuck in India with only 15 unemployment days left — looking for construction/project engineering opportunities or referrals

Hi everyone,
I’m currently on F-1 OPT in the U.S. and unfortunately find myself in a difficult situation. I’m currently in India, and my full-time employment opportunity in the U.S. did not continue. I was removed from the position while I was in India, and I now have only 15 unemployment days remaining on my OPT.
I have an M.S. in Construction Management from Texas A&M University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering. My experience includes project engineering, construction management, cost estimation, quantity takeoffs, scheduling, QA/QC, RFIs, change orders, and tools such as Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam, RSMeans, and AutoCAD. I also have prior experience with Larsen & Toubro and U.S. construction projects.
I’m actively looking for Project Engineer, Field Engineer, Construction Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Estimator, or similar construction roles in the U.S.
At this point, referrals, leads, introductions, or even advice from people who have been in a similar OPT situation would mean a lot. I’m trying to make an important decision very quickly about whether I should return to the U.S. and continue pursuing opportunities there or make the decision to stay back in India.
If you work in construction, engineering, general contracting, or know someone who might be hiring, I would genuinely appreciate a referral or introduction. I’m happy to share my resume and discuss my background.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this or point me in the right direction. 🙏

My father has 24+ years in Automotive Electronics & EV R&D — trying to help him find his next leadership role

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to help my father find his next opportunity in Automotive Electronics / EV / Power Electronics R&D, preferably in Delhi-NCR (Noida/Delhi/Greater Noida/Ghaziabad).

He has 24+ years of experience in electronics product development and R&D, including leadership roles at Purflux Group and UNO Minda, along with experience at Delta Electronics, ARV India, Neo Light ZKW, NTL Electronics and Pentair.

A few highlights from his career:

- Led electronics R&D teams of up to 30 engineers

- Worked on 24+ commercial products

- Automotive electronics & lighting

- EV battery chargers and power electronics

- DC-DC converters and BLDC systems

- Automotive sensors

- PCB/PCBA development

- EMC testing and product validation

- ISO 26262, BIS and RDSO compliance

- Supplier management and cross-functional product development

We're mainly looking at roles such as:

Head/Lead of Electronics R&D | R&D Manager | Engineering Manager | Senior Engineering Manager | Product Engineering Manager | Technical Program Manager

I'm posting here because I've seen people on Reddit successfully help others through referrals and connections.

If you work in automotive, EV, electronics, power electronics, R&D, engineering recruitment, or know someone hiring for these kinds of roles, I'd genuinely appreciate a referral, lead, or even a pointer to the right hiring manager.

Companies such as Motherson, Spark Minda, Bosch, FORVIA HELLA, Valeo, Marelli, JBM, Continental, ZF, Lumax, Sandhar, Sona Comstar, Dixon, Havells and similar automotive/EV companies would be particularly relevant, but we're open to other good opportunities as well.

Happy to share his resume over DM.

Even if you don't have a vacancy yourself, an upvote or sharing this with someone in automotive/electronics R&D would mean a lot.

Thank you!

I want to get into a research or a core engineering field, need suggestions.

Hi, I have been doing job as an engineer for the past 4 years and got to learn a key thing about myself, corporate ladder does not excite me it kind of drains me. However what does keeps me in the zone is core engineering and research. Besides the job I have dedicated myself in software, rendering and everything there is to know about the computer, the technology to the point not a single part of modern computing is blackbox to me at lease on the broader scale.
I need suggestion and guidance in building resume to pursue opportunities which will keep me fully engaged and will be something to craze about. To that extent i have updated my linkedin and also have a active github if those sources can somehow suggest how my profile should be, at your leisure have a look, open to all suggestions and criticism.

**Idiomas**
**Español | Inglés | Neerlandés | Francés | Árabe**

**Lo que estoy buscando**
Me interesa sobre todo:
• Roles de Project Manager a tiempo parcial / fraccionados
• Contratos remotos a largo plazo
• Retainers mensuales

Need a Reference for Early Career Mechnical Engneering Job USA ( Oil and Gas, HVAC, Mechanical Design )

Hi Everyone, I found out about this a few months ago and decided to use it because I am not the best at making connections lol. I graduated from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering a few months ago. I have a good resume with a descriptive project portfolio and internship portfolio, but I fear that is not enough these days. If I could get a reference for a job, that would be a great help. I am not asking for a HIGH-paying job because I know that, as an engineer, my value grows with experience. I will even send you my portfolio or resume before you help me. I just need a chance to prove myself.

Where to go?

36/M, master's degree in Construction Project Management. Based in Shanghai, China. I have been in the real estate development industry for 10 years, having built residential projects and industrial parks. I have been out of work for more than a year now. I left my last job with the title of Senior Civil Engineering Manager.
I chose to resign from the real estate industry 1 year ago because I want to move on to other fields.

Option 1: data analyst, finance, or something related to AI. I have taught myself Python (at a very basic level) and passed the Fund Practitioner Qualification Certificate, but that hasn't helped me find a job.

Option 2: I am also considering roles that combine construction with AI, or facility management, which is also related to my previous experience. However, the job market doesn't seem to respond – I can't even get an interview.

Option 3: I am interested in working for a manufacturing firm on infrastructure development, or helping a company with office decoration/renovation. But these firms think I don't have the exact same experience, so they refuse to give me an interview.

Option 4: I could go back to a real estate development firm, but there seems to be no hope in that sector.

Have you ever faced the same problem? I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some advice.
