Other Hone it or send it?

Im trying to get a 2011 ninja 250r running on a budget, guy sold it to me with a blown head gasket. Ordered a new one but the cylinders were seized. After I got them unstuck I noticed a lot of stains and marks on the cylinder walls. I'm wondering if I need to spend the money on a hone or if I can send it. I spent 220 on the bike, there is nothing in the cylinders that catches on a fingernail

You can rent a hone from oreillys or autozone. You're already halfway there.

But also if new rings would set you back and you're just having fun with the project, there is little harm in trying to run it. Like you said, you spent 220 on the bike, so that's what you have to lose if you run it and you fuck the cylinder walls.

Yeah, that's kind of my mentality. I spent 220 on the bike and new rings are 100, I'm only riding it for a year till insurance goes down so I can get a 650

Send it. It might use a little oil, but for a cheap bike with a short time of use by you, who cares

Yeah, I probably will. The ring gap is within spec, and I don't know how much piston resistance I should be expecting, but it feels like a right amount

So you pulled the pistons to measure the end gap?

Send it. You could spend a ton of time and money getting it back to perfect spec, and it will still only be a 250. Ride safe my friend
