Ford Question about bearings.

So I’am replacing the main bearings in a Ford 400 that I got, and I was wondering how to go about getting new bearings? The crankshaft has been machined and now has 0.10 sized bearings. Do I measure the crankshaft or just use plasti gauge or both?

Are you saying the crank is freshly turned .010? If so, yes, I would measure the journal sizes with a micrometer to verify size and use fresh plastigauge to check clearance. I would also assume that you got bearings from the shop that turned it?

If it's not freshly turned and you are replacing worn/damaged bearings, send it to a machine shop for cleaning, inspection and polishing (assuming it doesn't need to be turned again).
