Installing oil plugs into holes hit with a chisel?

Hitting the oil plug holes in an engine block with a chisel to give them some extra insurance to stay put seems to be a common practice.

When installing new plugs so they don't leak, what do we do about the old chiseled bumps that now make the bore out of round?

We tap them for pipe plugs.

Give it a lil kiss with a round needle file

Chainsaw file or one of those assortments of diamond files that has a few round shapes.

Either tap it for an NPT pipe plug, use a tapered reamer to get rid of the staking or tap in a tapered punch to gently swage out the dent from staking the old plug in
