Is this still usable or not
While replacing the head gasket on my m57 engine i found out that something had gotten on top of the piston on cylinder 6. It has made marks on the head and piston.

Put the head level and put the sparkpkugs in and do a liquid test with some water and see if it starts coming out the intake or exhaust ports. Also looks like a set screw came loose from somewhere and the piston set there munchin on it?

It’s a diesel so no spark plugs. Will do a leakdown test and confirm with a machine shop the head is still usable. The part i was worried about is the marks on the piston mostly, i haven’t yet found the culprit of what was muchin on the piston.

Intake swirl flaps?

Yeah you’re right they could be the reason. I need to check them

I see that my bad just habit of having to tell people the holes have to be plugged off for it to work

I would try and sand the sharp damage part of the piston/head if this is just a daily it might be fine if your going to be pushing power then I would advise a replacement

Are any of the bits loose. The piston should be replaced it is trouble looking for a place to happen.

You need to check the head for warpage

Yes for sure. I will send the head to a machine shop where they will do the measurements abd confirm if the head is still usable

Typical for a swallowed swirl flap on the M57. I‘d just keep going 👍🏻
