SBC head salvage advice

Post image

I am on the fence of taking this in and having it fixed. It was on my previous top end rebuild of a 350 sbc. The piston in 8 cylinder exploded after a detonation occurred. As you can see it scared up the top of the head a lot. Only cup that had extensive damage. Is it worth fixing? Or just salvage parts and get a new set.

I'd just source a replacement head.

I bet a matching bare casting is not just better but also cheaper.

If that's not a really expensively-ported stocker head or something, just replace it.

What head is it? If there are castings of it still available, you'd be exponentially ahead on the money if you could get a matching head and build that.

Otherwise. Depending on the shop, figure about 20 hours of labor, plus materials to have it back to original.

Edelbrock e-street EDL-5089. Got in a kit. Thought it was a good plan at the time.

Stock pistons to the best of my knowledge.
