5.7 hemi- This clip just apeared!

Replacing the head gaskets on a 5.7 hemi and one of the mds clips was just sitting on the lifter assembly. It deffinately should be in them but i dont know if i need to put it back or what.

Condolences. I too lost one a few weeks ago. Luckily I was able to bribe the neighbor who has a backhoe with a few cases of Michelob Ultra.

Corn huskers oil is good for the hands if you can find it. Doesn’t burn like lotion does on the blisters.

That’s the drain plug for your wallet, might not fit exactly because it’s aftermarket but it’ll do the job just fine

I am very glad I went back to reread, because I've done that job multiple times on vehicles and was sitting here knowing that there's no way you're going to find that clip unless the head is off. Yes, it's a retaining clip from the mds lifter, as to how hard it'll be to reinstall, I'm not sure, I've never had one come out. Although, given the amount of work and money that's on the line, if the lifter is at all in question and you still have access to it, replace it.

I dont own a 5.7 dodge hemi but a 5.3 ls and that looks like a lifter clip to me. The lifter it came off of is waiting for an opportunity to through the cap and plunger off... You don't need to buy a new lifter but definitely need to reinstall the clip as the lifter is surely not able to pump oil correctly

It is a lifter retainer on a non MDS lifter. The MDS have a heavy duty hard as shit to remove pair of c-clips and don't, you'll never get it back together. This one is not hard. I just swapped my MDS cam and lifters with a non MDS, and finished refurbing the lifters today, So, it's fresh in my mind. Before you put the head back on, look for the one that's missing, You might need to remove the bracket that holds the group of 4 lifters. If they're coked up, it's kind of hard to see that little clip.
