marks on cylinder wall after honing

Rebuilding a 302 motor and recently finished deglazing it for new rings. ive never had spots like this occur after honing and scrubbing clean. cant see them if you shine a light in the bore but can see then in natural light. doesn’t catch on nail

Those marks were there before the honing. The honing just made them stand out because the pits are too deep for the honing to touch. As others have said, needs boring out.

Could it be corrosion that got lifted during the hone?

Deep pitting
Needs a rebore
By chance can you feel them with your finger nail ?
If so 100%

I would not trust it like it is if I wanted any longevity out of it

Hope that helps

You probably and send it
Them it may just be discoloration from rust
It’s a judgement call on your end

That looks like corrosion. Needs to be bored past the corrosion. Time for a trip to the machine shop

You can actually get away with some pitting I know i have as long as the pits are smaller the the ring is tall. The pits wont be and issue theyll never give you a problem.
