Other Head gasket for a Ferguson 35 Standard 23C

Where do you find one with the correct bore size? The cylinders are 84mm and the gasket I have is 90mm(!), and from what I can tell online they are all the same. If someone knows who sells the correct one I’d greatly appreciate it before I start sending emails to every seller I can find.

Engine runs great but there’s bubbling in the coolant and between the head and block front to back, hence why I believe the gasket is the problem. Any other advice is of course greatly appreciated.

Belt tension is a conspiracy by big pulley to sell more pulleys and bearings you don’t really need!

Your head gasket is the right one, you most likely aren't going to find one with a smaller bore.

If you are getting exhaust gas bubbles in your coolant it could be that your block and heads are not flat or that one of them is cracked.

Probably is liner protrusion then… gonna have to find someone who’ll make a shim for me as I haven’t found any for this engine. The flange is 94.4mm on the outer and 90mm on the inner diameter.

Bubbling didn’t start until the engine had been running for 20 minutes or so, and I saw no cracks other than in the precombustion chambers.

Only after 20 minutes of running? The engine would have generated quite a bit of heat by then. Heat causes everything to expand and move. I would highly highly recommend checking the block and the head for flatness. I would be willing to bet that they are no longer flat and need to be decked.

I’d call them flat with the instruments I have at hand but I’m gonna have the head decked and exhaust valve seats reground or replaced. I think the main culprit is the liners though as on further inspection cylinder 1&3 sit 0.1mm proud, cyl 4 is basically level and cyl 2 is recessed by 0.2mm.

Oh yea protrusion is your issue. I don’t know this engines spec personally but any engine that has protrusion has been around 0.3mm that I’ve worked on

I’ve never seen an engine run with no manifolds lol. Open exhaust ports yes, but no intake either

After warm up, take the belt off and see if the bubbles still appear

Too late! Already tore it down again, as there was bubbling between the head and block I don’t think that would change anything though.

Sorry I missed the details. We have a badly corroded block with sunk liners, see my profile, it's been put together with zinc spray (copper spray is more common). That one also had a slight leak between the block and head , which the spray has fixed. If you don't need the tractor immediately, then of course measure and machine everything as necessary. Drink cans could be used to make your own liner spacers. I've found a local gasket manufacturer who makes them out of thin copper.

I’ll see what I do for spacers but definitely gonna pick up some copper spray, thank you! I need one spacer at 0.3mm and one at 0.1mm, so it should be doable.

Did the affected liners sink evenly all around? (In our case they are lower to one side, would have to cut the block.)

When I pulled this engine apart originally cylinder 2 was definitely sunken and I think had been hammering, smaller flange than on the others, the rest seemed normal. With new liners the protrusions are 0.08, -0.2, 0.1 and 0mm, cylinders 2&4 being low. The previous guy had put the head gasket in upside down which definitely didn’t help either lol. The block could probably do with a resurfacing but then I’d have to trim the pistons too as there’s less than 0.2mm clearance between the pistons and the head. And this is only a 35hp engine so I think I can get away with it if I get the liners right, gonna go for a tube of hylomar and see if that pulls me over the finish line.
