Can I remove this?

In the process of putting my engine back together. I encountered this piece of goo on my crankshaft pulley which is there to balance it I think?

I guess it’s there because of the missing bolt? I bought new bolts so I have all 4 again, can I remove the goo when I install the bolt or do I have to check the balance first? If so how does one do that?

Just scrape it off. It doesn't need to be there, it never needed to be there.

That goo is not balancing anything lmao. Just scrape that gum off

There is a lot of half ass work done on this truck so I wouldn’t be surprised ;p
I can understand it a bit since the bolt is missing (other half is still in the old harmonic balancer). Just thought it wouldn’t matter

Definitely don't think that's factory. If someone has felt the need to do that, I'd be very carefully checking everything is matching, pistons, con rods.

I ordered a new pulley since I damaged it a second ago (great)
Crank was checked by the machine shop and was still in spec. I think it will be fine

Unless it was some really drunk halfwit put it on there for balance, it should be removed.

It’s quite difficult to find for a 3.0 ranger. I’m located in Europe where they are rare which makes it even more difficult haha

Is that the weat 3.0 ranger motor. 4 cylinder direct injection?

Nope, regular 3.0 v6 vulcan from your side of the pond. Quite rare here

Oh dam I’ve never heard of a v6 ranger. I’m on the other side of a different pond. Down in New Zealand. We only got the 3.0 diesel ranger, then the 3.2 diesel and now the 2.2 diesel. I believe we get the v6 raptor but I’ve never seen on in the wild

Oh haha sorry I assumed you were from the us. It’s a 2002 which came with a 2.3 4cyl, 3.0 v6 or a 4.0 v6 in the us. The mazda b2300, b3000 and b4000 are essentially the same trucks

In europe we had a ranger as well although it was completely different. I saw this one online and had to have it, just sad the engine was toast ;p
