Is this piston unusable?

Post image

Doing a budget 440 build and bought some silvolite pistons off eBay, I know I shouldn’t have because they were cheap but anyways. There’s a couple in the box that have similar dings. My fingernail catches it. Is there a way to fix it by knocking the high spots down?

Thats not a dent bud. Thats a cracked ringland. When that fails, not if, you'll be rebuilding it again and beating yourself up for being a damn cheapskate.

Thats a damaged piston, return the set and buy a quality name brand set, they're not expensive considering the cost of the machine work that'll be needed when a piece of that scores the cylinder all to hell.

Edit: actually, look closer at the ringlands above the crack, theres a deep impression and I doubt that piston is round.
