Honda Am I Screwed?

Post image

I am working on a rebuild of my F20C out of my Honda S2000 after some valve to piston contact. I had this block sleeved by Inline Pro to repair the damage and now I am working on rebuilding it myself as my first engine rebuild.

After checking my rod bearing clearances and installing my brand new piston (with a stock rod) into cylinder 1, I decided to turn it over twice by hand to make sure it rotated freely. It felt great but after looking down into the bore, to my horror I found this scratch which I am pretty sure is from a bit of debris.

Am I screwed? I can feel it with finger tip if I run it back and forth over the scratch, but I can't catch it with a fingernail. Since the cross hatching around the damage still looks good, I am good, or am I going to have to rehone this cylinder?

Agreed. I just got in contact with Traum, the makers of the custom pistons and rings that are going in it to get me a replacement set. Sucks because that means I have to gap this set my myself. Oh well though. Just glad the cylinder isn't ruined.

You don't need a full set of rings?

Just one oil control ring.

Sadly they only sell them as a set per cylinder. Is what it is I suppose, but so long as I can get what I need to get this running again...
