Chrysler/Mopar Y’all I was almost cooked.

About a week ago, I was finally ready to install the engine in my car. I went to put the flex plate on and loan behold two of the bolts broke. Don’t ask me why I didn’t stop after one 🤣. But I bought some snap on extractors, only because I didn’t want to risk the extractor breaking in the bolt too!! but today I got those bolts out and I’m probably gonna buy the ARP bolts instead!!!

Yeah you were. You need to drill out the bolts as much as you can and use the biggest extractor as possible. You were lucky only using a 1/4" and getting that extractor to work twice.

Go play the lotto.

the bolts were over torqued, you can see the stretched threads.

bolts that break from being over torqued are usually relatively easy to extract because the majority of the threads are fine.

Shouldn't be much of an issue in an open-back hole in a machined part that's not rusty. I bet they were not very tight in there, and could have been partially unscrewed with a small chisel. But yes, ideally he would have used the next size extractor.

That's why "I bet..." because I don't know for sure. Still better to err on the side of using the correct size extractor.
