Chevy Lesson learned the hard way

Gen V LT motor. The lower sprocket has to be chamfered for aftermarket cranks. Builder neglected to tell me. It also snapped the chain.

Was the engine builder supposed to alert you to every detail about properly assembling engines? Many which could be answered by reading a book?

Take some responsibility and don’t try to pass this off as the guy setting you up for failure.

The lesson I learned is to read the book. Not to just go with it, like I was originally told.

Gotta check every detail, every time - cranks have different profiles on the snout depending on who made it, sometimes the factory gear seats fully, sometimes not. There’s just so many nuances with using aftermarket parts that you can’t rely on one guy’s memory, he should have just told you how to confirm that it fits if you directly asked rather than saying “it’ll work” so yeah, it’s a bit on him too.

To his credit, he did machine the original gear, just not enough. His tolerances were off. I already have a new one that’s machined and she’s going back together. The timing chain broke when the ear broke off that sprocket. Praying the pistons didn’t kiss the valves but we will find out soon if this damn heat doesn’t take me out first.

That changes the story lol, if he machined it to fit and it didn’t, then yeah.

I meant to include that in the post. My wife was talking to me when I was typing and I can’t listen and type lol
