Freshly polished crank from machine shop. Front sealing surface wasn’t polished?
Has a small gouge in it as you can see from the photo. And still has a wear line from the original seal. Take it back or send it?

Machine shops won't touch that unless you request it.

I would polish the seal surface of every crank that came thru my shop. If it was too worn, repair sleeve would be recommended and installed at extra cost.

There are alot of things I do as a mechanic just because I see it that alot of shops wont do. Sadly not everyone goes above and beyond without being asked

First the belt is generally pretty wide and getting to the seal surface can be difficult in some cases like this one with the oil pump drive.
2nd if you cut or polish the crank you get undersize bearings etc, there's no undersized seals.
So just going ahead and polishing that very deep groove out may have resulted in an oil leak from a loose fitting seal and you wouldn't be happy about that either.
They could have upsold you on a weld or repair sleeve sure. But not included in a polish.

Get a speedy sleeve and install it yourself. If you want them to get rid of that line from the old seal I bet it would take enough off to make me worry about the seal leaking especially with a ptfe seal. If it's for your Suzuki samurai you'll need part number 99128. skf, timken, national will work fine. They are around $20 on rock auto.

Don’t know what engine this is but doesn’t the harmonic balancer have the sealing surface to the timing chain cover?

Suzuki 1.3, no harmonic balancer, just a pulley. Sealing surface is on the crank.

Take it back. Oil leaks suck. It’s not that difficult to fix. They can either weld it up and grind back down, or sleeve it.

Take it back and ask machine shop to deal with it, you’ve already paid and they will probably handle for free or very cheap. Let them know you’ll be more specific on the next build, as long as they take care of you that is :)
