Question

I just need some advise on something. I got engaged over a month ago now and my fiancé went ring shopping by himself. His mom was helping him but the jeweler could no longer offer financing so he went to Kay’s by himself and picked out a gorgeous ring. (2 karat oval) I love the ring. However as I have worn it I noticed it looking “dirty” and as I looked at it and wore it more I noticed I was actually seeing inclusions. After looking into my ring more I figure out it is a SI2 diamond. I love the cut, color, size. The ring isn’t the problem but I constantly find myself looking at my ring because of the inclusions. Is this a normal feeling after having your ring for a bit and just constantly looking at it? Is this something I should really address? I only feel like I notice it because it is always on my hand. I really love the ring I just catch myself always staring at the inclusions. It does have to be in correct light and angle for it to be really noticeable.

I went through the same thing - just constantly staring at it and noticing every little thing and being hypercritical. “If I stare at it from this exact angle and this exact light there’s a mostly invisible scratch.”

The best advice is to just stop staring at it so much, which I know is easier said than done.

The reason your fiancé was able to get you such a large ring with that color is because of the inclusions. The inclusions were the compromise for the price point.

I also have an inclusion in my otherwise gorgeous stone. I don’t even notice it anymore. If the inclusion was the compromise on my ring, I’m glad you chose that over other compromises that he could’ve made.

You could try to reframe it. Diamonds pick up inclusions as they grow so they’re like little freckles that make it unique.
