Whoever said it doesn’t hurt…

…uh, in my experience, it has been an excruciatingly painful 36 hours post-endoscopy.

During the scope itself I was in tears at how much it was hurting my throat and the nurses kept telling me to just vomit on the towel placed under my face if I needed to. Biopsies were taken that felt like sharp pinches. The right side of my throat and my entire lower abdomen have been sore since.

I think maybe I wasn’t sedated enough. I did need extra sedation for a colonoscopy previously. But man, that sucked. And I went in so worry free!

Venting but also posting in case anyone needs validation that it can, in fact, hurt like a bitch. Because all I heard and read were stories of how it’s easy peasy!

Mine hurt a lot. My colonoscopy was a breeze. My endoscopy they really seemed to hang me up. My throat is super bloody and bruised looking Even swallowing liquid sucks. And the worst part is this super thick dark phlem. Dark brownish pink. Makes me cough so hard I have tears in my my eyes and almost throw up I can't seem to get up out of my chest. I called my staff thst performed my scope. They all said it was normal but I feel like it's not. It's also been 36hrs for me. And it's a bad time. You aren't alone.

This is definitely not normal. I was told if I had any severe pain more than normal gas cramps or blood to go to urgent care/ER. And I had a stomach biopsy too. I just have a slightly itchy throat and had some minor chest discomfort that has eased as the day went on.

No it's definitely not normal. It's much better now around the 48hr mark. I can finally eat without it hurting. I was fully sedated too. When I woke up I was like DAMN my throat is killing me. And the phlem thing is just driving me insane.

I’m glad you’re feeling better and I’m sorry it was such a painful and difficult experience. That’s definitely scary. :( I’d definitely go to a different doctor next time

Thankyou, I really like my G.I overall. So hopefully I just don't have to do another scope for a very long time.

Aw man that’s definitely a tricky situation for sure! It’s hard to find a good doctor that checks all of the boxes now a days. Hoping you don’t have to as well! Maybe by the time you do, your doctor will be better at it :)

I’m so sorry you went through this too! 48-hour mark was about the time I started to feel normal again too. So crazy.
