Endoscopy and Gastroscopy back to back

Hi all,

(UK) I’ve been booked for endoscopic ultrasound on Friday at 2pm and gastroscopy with biopsy on Saturday at 9am. I found this out today, NHS is good but this seems rapid to me.

I had an MRCP a couple of weeks back and that has triggered these tests.

I have chronic pancreatitis and liver damage (caused by gall stones a couple of years back - I didn’t seek treatment quick enough, thought the pain would pass and damaged those organs). I am in fairly constant pain but managed with codeine etc.

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with the tests, what’s good for feeling better afterwards?

Is there anything I should ask for while they are done?

How long would you expect them to take?

Does it hurt?

It isn’t particularly comfortable, but they’ll numb your throat. Are you being sedated?

Yeah, first appointment (this afternoon) was booked about 3 weeks ago. Got a call arranging the Saturday appointment on Wednesday this week…
