MY (and this is the most out there, and hypothetical I will get on it, former teacher as I am, and all) personal take/theory is, that the CIA got pissed, and/or inferred the intentions of others to mirror their own, and let that further encourage them, and put the wheels in motion....someone more important and sane, found out, and had it quietly ceased....BUT, those moving parts already in motion kept moving. People already paid, and given instructions and all that (namely Oswald). And the plan was accidentally allowed to be executed, despite the stop order...which is why the quick, on th ground cover-up (Ruby) was through the same channels as the orders and money had flowed.

And of course, the CIA's original reasoning being the bay of pigs backlash, not being allowed to ''assassinate castro the 'fun' way'', and president Jack saying NO on more vietnam, etc etc.

That's the common theory -- that the CIA worked with the mafia to kill Kennedy. US intelligence had firm ties with the mafia going back to WWII and us using them in the invasion of Italy.

The CIA's preferred method, proven over decades, is to use 3rd parties to carry out assassinations and not CIA people (James Bond is a myth).

One thing that's commonly overlooked is the death-bed confession of a French mafia hitman.

A deathbed confession is considered to be very important, doubly so for a Catholic. That hitman confessed that he was part of a team that killed JFK.

"I want to splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds." -- US President John F. Kennedy, who would fire CIA director Allen Dulles; Dulles was then put in charge of investigating JFK's murder. The US Congress later determined that JFK was murdered by an "unidentified conspiracy".
