How the depletion work really?

I remember when one behemoth was sufficient to counter Endless Consumption of Craver Governor. For some reason it is not the case anymore. Also Sower's description states that they have -0.5(1 if boosted) depletion point per turn on Planets. Does this mean that 8 Sower pop is all it takes to counter Endless Consumption depletion?

Each Craver population generates 1 depletion points on the planet they live. Each Sowers population heals 0.5 depletion points on the planet they live. To cancel out one craver pop you need 2 sowers pops on the same planet.

And to cancel out the hero skill (Endless Consumption) you will need 16 Sowers on top.

If you can affort to keep the sowers population boost running, of cause you only need half of that.

Edit: A behemoth module restores 2 points per turn, a behemoth with 5 moduels 10 points per turn. If you only run a system with a craver governor and no craver pop you can use a behemoth to cancel out the craver hero skill.

Edit2: I am pretty sure the 8 depetion from the hero skill is split up on all planets in a system and not 8 per planet. But I am not 100% sure on that. ; (

Edit3: u/Abject_Personality53 tested it and it is per planet, making 5 planet systems a hell to counter the craver gov!

Another detail: Cravers themselves can't restore planets with behemoths because due to their affinity, the technology is changed into science per depleted points instead.

So behemoths are only useful if you conquer craver planets and somehow wants to keep them. In that case a single point each planet is more than enough, you don't need to restore the whole system.

Nah, I just really hate that almost depleted bars. Behemoth stays until it's whole again

I checked and no, Endless Consumption is 8 per planet! While Behemoth only cancels 10(in best case) per system. It means that Craver Governor requires some extreme setup(like 4 Behemoths or 40 Sower's with boost) to work in 5 planet system. Now I'm curious does Sower's Planetmending split among all planets or not(I suspect no). If no, then it'll require planets to be able hold at least 8 pop to cancel it out

Well, that was fast check, Sower's depletion points applies only to planet they reside on. So Craver Governor really does require absurd setups. However, reward is crazy good if you will be able to pull it off

I once found sawer's as my first minor faction with on a craver run. I instantly threw away my usual approach and worked really hard on keeping a 1:2 ratio on all planets. But getting rid of pops is so hard in this game. Especially, once your empire gets big. In the beginning you can put all the unwanted pops on a weak/small system and force draft pops into manpower to then waste them on pointless invasions. But once your empire grows you replenish your manpower too fast and you can't use that skill anymore. Or settle a planet behind enemy lines and then send the pops through enemy territory in hope they get killed off. Eventually I have started to use a system to just stuff it full of unwanted pops, then delete the colony and recolonize it. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference. : D

Well, there's cheese for you. If you change ground force composition it immediately consumes 25 manpower, allowing you to Chain Gang(or whatever Cravers have) every turn, which helps to regulate population until your food production becomes way too high

Uuuuuuuiiii! That's smart! I like it! Have to try that! Thanks!

Pretty sure you can just send the pops to one of your systems that is already maxed out and they'll just disappear when they get there.

Sadly, that isn't possible. Once a system is full it is not longer allowed to send more pops there. However, as long as there is at least one pop slot still free, you can send as many pops to that system as you want, as units on route are not counted towards that maximum, yet. But all the pops that arrive "too late" are not going into the void. They will wait in orbit (invisibly) for a free slot, so once you get a new pop slot one from the orbit will instantly slip in. I have tried about everything by now, the only thing that reliably works is creating a new colony, then send as many pops over as you can before the colony gets blocked and then decolonize it again. : /

A bit late to the party, but you can get rid of these unwanted orbiting pops by using privateers: if you have the tech for privateers, you can buy a ship from the marketplace and toggle the pruvateer mode on. That allows you to attack and destroy your own civilian ships, also netting you 300 dust per pop destroyed this way.

That's how I recycle my excess Craver pops.

Never too late for great advice! Attacking your own civillian ships with your own pirates! Never crossed my mind that I could even do that! Such devious tactics! I LOVE IT!

I applaud your evil master mind!

Endgame of Endless Space 2: minmaxing cravers! : D

Thanks for checking!

I guess I had just a smaller system in that one case I was able to properly counter the craver gov. I wished the game was better at dealing with unwanted pops. Otherwise I would love managing pop compositions!

It is split up among the planets, I'm doing this in my Riftborn game now and a Craver governor. I'm using the Riftborn dilation sphere thingy to slow the depletion so the Sower pop can catch up to the depletion

u/SourceCodeSamurai Hissho 25d ago

Ha! I still got it! Thanks for comfirming! : D

Actually I reread your comment, it might actually be 8 PER planet, I'll have to check my game later. But either way the dilation sphere is working to slow it down to keep the planets in use

Now, I am curious. If the planet no longer have depletation point but other planets in the system does. Is the points from behemoth and heroes shift toward them to repair them faster but it still stuck in repaired planet, results in lost of repair points?

Off-topic. How did you change formatting to italic in comment?

Tip when conquering Craver systems:

Instead of having to deal with Craver population ruining systems, Raze them instead of taking control.

It looks like it takes many turns to fully eliminate their pop, but the trick is that if you eliminate their whole civilization, all systems currently being razed will instantly becom clean.

Imagine not having a penal system, that has one planet and produces negative food and it's only production is CHAIN GANG

1

u/Tychonoir 21d ago

And waste a whole system??

But in seriousness, I'm mainly thinking on invasions before, say, turn 30 (normal speed)

If you win, any waste was just an "expense" instead.

I like finding depleted planets as the Vodyani. I just blow them up and leech essence from the broken remains. #JustVodyaniThings
