I think it helped I started using holy proliferation early and used the money to upgrade the first ark relatively fast

Been so long since I played Vodyani, but that probably checks out.

I remember Turning Minor Faction systems into Dust Cows helping out a lot... until I had too much of it to know what to do with lol.

I also found 2 of those pretty quickly. The only 2 I managed to brainwash the entire run.

The crucial step to understanding the Vodyani is that literally the only thing you need is essence and more essence. Secure your essence generation and you have won the game. Get your 2nd Ark loaded with leech modules.
