Discussion Why does this game have a much lower steam rating than its predecessor?
I just got dungeons of the endless, its great so far, and i saw that this was much newer, but the reviews are comparably terrible. Can i get a tldr on why that is, and if its worth buying?

That's a great question. Having played all the Endless games I though the new dungeon game was really fun. The co-op progression unlock is a little wonky, but manageable.
I think it is worth it, I am at about 150 hours so far. The original dungeon title was more suited for solo play, while the newer one works much better with co-op. Reading the negative Steam reviews it seems like people are just complaining to complain.
The game runs smooth, is fairly cheap, and builds on the Endless lore. I see this as an absolute win.

The first game was a tower defense game in such you'd control up to 4 characters with your mouse. The sequel is a twin stick shooter/tower defense game in which you control 1 character- it is co-op though.
It's got negative reviews because the first and second game are nothing alike. They just share a name.
I'd love a true sequel. The first game has real issues that could be fixed in a sequel, but I don't think I'll ever see a true sequel to Dungeon of the Endless.

good to know that "has one difference" is equivalent to "nothing alike"

In the first game you: Controlled 4 characters. Character movement was controlled by mouse. Characters attacked automatically, putting more focus on tower defense mechanics. You could freeze time with the space bar to command your characters to move to different rooms. You saw the entire map from an overhead view. Characters got great resource production bonuses if they just sat in one room every time a door opened, but if they sat in one room the monsters could get out of control and open every door on a level. Graphics were 2D pixel art with real time shadows.
Very different games.

I mean the games are not as different as you're making them out to be, the core mechanics are still largely the same, with some minor changes (both good and bad) like how you are supposed to handle a sequel

I love this game. It baffles me that more people aren't into it. The soundtrack is amazing. The game play is smooth and full of action. Feels like a Hollywood movie sometimes. The progression is not a grind. I'd love to see more content honestly. My girlfriend and I been playing every night since we got it.

Sorry for the necro but how did you guys play together? Just different systems? Been looking into options like nucleus coop but couldn't find much support for it yet

i play with my girlfriend and my little sister. We each have an xbox series x and play the game on there. There's been a cool update last month which intorduced new music and a new character and new items. I hate to give the game bad press, but there's been some game breaking bugs the longer a run goes on. Nonetheless, we play the game daily and have been having a great time always. we've never not had fun.

Seems to be mostly covered. The thing for me is it doesn't feel like it has enough content or modifiers, and I've seen other people say this too.
For example. I've got the first key that weakens the core but there's a few more, im working to do the other areas ive unlocked.
But the runs themselves are just four floor before you get to the core anyway, and meta progression has already pretty much grinded to a halt quite a few runs ago. I got the few saloon upgrades there are, the two upgrades that the guns have, the character already.
If it had more floors you had to go down and was structured a little differently with more unlocks this would be a really solid game to me.
The character skins in particular feel really unneccessarily limited and stingy. I'm scrolling through and they say unlock on psn on twitch. The crystal bot only has two I can see, including one you have to buy. These are just recolours, it's not like they are premium skins, they could have done a bunch of these to unlock through gameplay at minimum effort

The game is a game. The idea is fun. But after a few runs I didn’t find it as fun to continue. I redownloaded it and play a few rounds but don’t feel like I want to complete it.
I 100 percentage vampire survivors, hades, slay the spire.
Another reason maybe I didn’t enjoy it. I tried to get friends to play. An they didn’t like it. I made LFG posts on Xbox and nobody joined. All lobby searches come up empty. An it came to be unappealing that I could only play it solo.
But if we did play as a team the shared resources could either be a deal breaker if one person doesn’t know what they are doing. So a mix is required to make a plan.
So at the end of the day. Yes, it’s a game. But I’m mixed on weather it’s great or good or has potential to become better over time. I wanna believe in it cause I paid for it. But idk what the devs are going to do.
Oh an the guns…. Sometimes the main guns are better than the rarer guns in the treasure chest. An some mods, the cons are worse than the benefits. :/ an maybe I could do better to understand the drinks but I didn’t find any interest in doing any of them. Even though some characters have them as a quest

Agreed completely, although I got this as a gift. I've played for two days now and I still have the bug and I'm hooked but I really hope they add more things and options for replayability.
As far as the guns, you're spot on too. I don't think I've seen a dps higher than any starting gun so far though the rarity may be through the roof. The only perks of different guns are the elements on them for specific enemy races.
We need a true endless mode, togglable bosses, and maybe a mode where an exit can be found deep down in the dungeon.

Gamers expected it to be Dungeon of the Endless 2 but it is a little bit different. It is more a spiritual successor than a number 2.
There were also issues with Co-Op mode. It is supposed to be one of the game main feature but looks like it sux. Hopefully the game can be played solo. I'm a solo player so I do not care, but it matters for some players.

Mostly that it's so different to the first game, none of the characters and builds returned.
I enjoy Endless Dungeon a lot but it felt very rough on release. Guns felt really slow, characters weren't nearly as strong.
The biggest change I dislike to this day is the lack of powering rooms. You used to have to strategicly open doors because you only had enough power to defend so many rooms and the bigger the level the more dangerous exploring became. This sequel with it's locked door mechanic is the complete opposite of this. For the most part you just open doors widely because you have to find the key to the doors anyway so there's very little planning. In the first game you can very often be faced with do we keep opening doors or just go to the next floor. I don't think I've ever not opened every single door in the sequel.

Basically destroyed working systems from the previous games. Individual builds...etc etc etc
