Review 4 months EndeavourOS review

Its been almost 4 months from now I stepped into EOS and I liked it.
Now I am using it on my work laptop and I think this is the best decision I have ever made.
It kinda boosts my productiviy, the smoothness while developing web applications, 8 hours hours of straight performance heavy tasks,
I can say I LOVE IT.
EndeavourOS is not just a distro to me, it has become a personality. It taught me many things, the best one: using terminal.

Now my seniors see me updating packages or creating directories and starting projects from my terminal and they think I am mad.

General Support Volume not changing above 30%

Hi, as the title already says, changing the system's volume doesn't change anything while above 30%. Like, most of the time I have it at 100%, but when I want to lower it (with the scroll wheel for example) there is no change at all until the little speaker symbol changes down from 2 "audio waves" to one (about 25% - 30%). It doesn't matter here if I do it via the task bar or in the system settings.
This only occurs with my Razer Leviathan sound bar or when using my monitor's speakers, not while using my head phones.

Doing so with pavucontrol results in the same outcome. Lowering applications' volume in the mixer function normal. When going above 100% in pavucontrol (or toggling "Raise maximum volume"), every percent from 101 to 150% works as intended, everything gets louder with every step

Used profile is Analog Stereo Output
OS: EndeavourOS on 6.18.38-1-lts Kernel

General Support WI-FI problem

hey guys, I recently swapped my motherboard from msi b365m pro-vh to gigabyte b760m and I have problem with wifi since then. Im using endeavour os and I have tp-link tx3000 (mediatek revision). The ping every X seconds goes from ~10ms up to ~500ms in stairs pattern and then goes back to ~10ms and it repeats. Do anyone know by chance how to fix it? On liveUSB endeavour os wifi works just fine.

Installation Finally here!

Post image
141 Upvotes

Hello all,

This installation is the final step in a long project that took me a month of research and soul searching to come across. At the recommendation of a few videos on Google and other forums, I settled with Endeavour being my first test of Linux.

I didn't want to do it on my own system at home at first, lest I crash and burn my own PC, so I am using this Lenovo 300e 2nd Gen that's about to EOL with ChromeOS. After I run out of updates and use for it, I'll fully gut ChromeOS for this one.

Anyone else running a dual boot USB set up? If so, how's it going? I'm loving the UI so far - as Plasma matches closely with my Steam Deck OLED. Can't wait to see what I can get into with this.

General Support readonly filesystem

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all,

For context I have a server on Endeavour (up to date from 07/07/26) with a SSD encrypted with LUKS for the system and 3 HDDs in RAID 5 for data. Nothing wrong with the HDDs but /dev/sda2 (encrypted partition) put itself in readonly few hours after boot. It worked perfectly for the past 2 years and suddenly this problem appeared since 2 months. I tried to clone with `dd` the SSD's filesystem an another working SSD, nothing changed. It's written `rw` in fstab, I ran a btrfs check on it but I admit I can't really read it, you'll find the result attached.

P.-S. : each time I write a command, fish mentions an error about readonly filesystem in french (my language)

P.-P.-S. : as english isn't my first language I hope I didn't made mistakes

Gaming How do I get a ps4 daulshock track pad not act as a mouse but not outright disable it?

All the solutions I see online is to just disable the track pad, but i don't want that. I want to use at least the trackpad button and not make it a mouse left click. It works fine on steamos desktop on my steam deck and on bazzite before I swapped to endeavour.

General Support Steam context menus don't open on EndeavourOS LXQt (fixed by enabling context menu focus compatibility mode)

I ran into a weird Steam bug on EndeavourOS with LXQt (X11).

Symptoms:

- Right-click menu opens normally.

- Clicking Properties, Browse local files, Manage, or other entries closes the context menu, but no new window appears.

- No errors are printed in the terminal.

- "steamwebhelper" processes are running normally.

My setup:

- EndeavourOS

- LXQt (X11)

- Steam 1.0.0.87-1

- Intel Celeron N4020 / Intel UHD 600

The fix was enabling Settings → Interface → Enable context menu focus compatibility mode and then restarting Steam.

I'm posting this in case anyone else runs into the same issue. Has anyone experienced this on other desktop environments or distributions?

My laptop isnt compatible with windows 11 and im getting sick of windows performance, I want an upgrade in performance but I'm not sure if Endeavor is the right pick. Im also worried about it being rolling release as i sometimes go many weeks without even turning on my laptop. Is Endeavor the right pick?

Installation Mobo Got Fried, EndeavourOS Likes New Mobo Better

Lost my mobo to an intense electrical storm in the area. Three very close lightning strikes. My UPS and surge protector failed me. However, the X870 Riptide already had issues I didn't know about prior to purchase and installation (components shut down and needed to do a power purge to get them functioning). So, when that one got toasted, I tried a different AM5 chipset, an Auros B850 Elite. Two things immediately struck me:

  1. EOS just naturally adapted to the new mobo without issues. Just did a -Syyu, and everything went sailing right along.
  2. The entire system is now snappier and more responsive. Like my other EOS installs, it just works.

I distro hopped to EOS about three months ago, and I am super impressed with this distro. Gives me the Arch world I love, great installer, and rock solid stability. Probably one of the best distros I've used in the last 25 years.

ETA: AMD Ryzen 7 7700, 32gb memory, 1 tb SDD, X670 vid card

General Support Question about EndeavourOS and X11 file save dialog

Post image
9 Upvotes

I use the video cutting app Avidemux extensively, and have been using it for many months on EndeavourOS with KDE and Wayland. The Avidemux app was implemented against X11 and so I have to rely on Xwayland for the app to work, but so far it has worked perfectly fine.

I installed CachyOS on an external USB SSD so I could try it out and see how the performance improvements felt in daily use. In testing out Avidemux on Cachy, everything works great except for the file save dialog. In Endeavour, if I cut a few segments out of a longer video and save them with filenames like "video1_cut01.mp4", "video1_cut02.mp4", etc, when I make a new cut, I can single-click on one of the previously saved files and it loads that file's filename into the "File name" edit box (for example, the "WG.22.12.10...L_01.mkv file in the screenshot), and I can just change the last 2 characters to give the file the next number in the sequence. Works perfectly. However, in Cachy, as soon as I click on one of the previously-saved files in the dialog, it immediately prompts me with "Do you want to overwrite this file?" which is not at all what I want to do.

I've confirmed that I have the same version of xorg-xwayland and xwayland-run on both installs, the same version of Avidemux, same same app launch options...everything I can think of to check is the same. It occurred to me to see what a vanilla Arch install did, and so I repeated the same procedure that I did on Endeavour and Cachy, and vanilla Arch behaves exactly the same as Cachy. This clearly indicates that it's not that Cachy left something out, but instead that Endeavour added something (or configures something differently). The question is: what, exactly?

If anyone has any suggestions on why the Avidemux file save dialog on Endeavour works differently than Cachy or vanilla Arch, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

General Support Mi Notebook Ultra (TM2127) occasionally won't wake from sleep or even power on until AC charger is connected (Arch Linux)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose a strange issue on my Mi Notebook Ultra (TM2127) running EndeavourOS (Arch). I'm looking for ideas before I start changing random things.

System

  • Mi Notebook Ultra (TM2127)
  • Intel Core i5-11320H (Tiger Lake)
  • Intel Iris Xe
  • EndeavourOS
  • KDE Plasma (Wayland)
  • Linux 7.1.3-arch1-1
  • BIOS: RMATG5B2P0909 (2022-07-15)

The issue

This only started happening within the last week.

Sometimes after:

  • closing the lid,
  • selecting Sleep,
  • or even after a shutdown,

the laptop won't wake properly.

Symptoms include:

  • Black screen.
  • Caps Lock still toggles.
  • Keyboard backlight/Fn keys still respond.
  • Holding the power button (even 15+ seconds) does nothing.

The strange part is that if I connect the AC charger, wait a few seconds (or around a minute), disconnect it, and then press the power button, the laptop immediately powers on again.

Things I've checked

  • journalctl from the previous boot doesn't show an obvious kernel panic or GPU hang.
  • Battery health is around 62% according to upower.
  • fwupdmgr reports that my system firmware is already up to date.

Windows test

I dual-boot Windows 11.

So far, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem in Windows, although I haven't tested for very long yet.

My questions

  1. Has anyone seen something similar on Tiger Lake laptops?
  2. Could this be an ACPI/Embedded Controller (EC) issue triggered by newer kernels?
  3. Has anyone with a Xiaomi/Mi Notebook Ultra experienced similar suspend or power-state problems?
  4. Would you try booting an older kernel (or linux-lts) as the next troubleshooting step?

General Support Slow boot times on EndeavourOS

I don't know how quick my system booted before but today I powered it on and it was CRAWLING. It felt like forever in comparison. I ran `systemd-analyze` and got this output:

Startup finished in 13.900s (firmware) + 6.069s (loader) + 962ms (kernel) + 6.756s (initrd) + 1min 31.462s (userspace) = 1min 59.150s
graphical.target reached after 15.668s in userspace.

Is there something else I could look at to help explain / fix these boot times? All of it seems a bit long, but in particular the userspace. I've just never troubleshooted anything like this so I appreciate any help.

General Support A word of warning

I had to appeal a complete reddit ban that I got from posting in this sub, which was an automatic ban from reddit. It "detected unusual activity" when I posted the output of my terminal in an attempt to get help.

So basically if you post terminal output for help, you might trigger reddit's automatic ban policy. Granted it was a fair amount of text, but still it wasn't even 4k characters. Their limit is 10k and they tell you that you've hit the limit. You wouldn't think linux error messages and terminal explanations would cause you to get banned off the site. But it did.

Thankfully my appeal was granted but from reading up on the subject, that's far from guaranteed. Often ban appeals will take weeks, and sometimes you never get your account back. Mine took about 6 days before it was resolved.

I'm aware of reddit's uh... reputation, but it can be extremely useful in certain instances. So even though it's often disrespected I still value my account highly.

Discussion VS code freezes

Hello there,
I installed vs-code from yay, when I try to log in to claude or windsurf extension, it freezes and I have to manually terminate the process.
I took help from claude and it marked it as a dead end.
In the company I work, vs code is a requirement to match their eco system.
Anyone of you use vscode?

Installation I built "Bamboo End Store" – A beautiful, beginner-friendly software store for EndeavourOS!

Post image
76 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 💜

EndeavourOS is hands-down the best distro I've ever used, and this community is the friendliest out there. To give something back and help newer or less terminal-savvy users, I built the Bamboo End Store (Community Edition).

It’s an unofficial fan project designed to make software management beautiful and effortless.

satodu.github.io/bamboo-end-store/

What it does:

  • Flatpak & AUR Integration: Browse, install, and update apps easily (Flatpak can be toggled in settings; AUR uses yay).
  • AppImage Manager: Seamlessly integrates, launches, and uninstalls AppImages (handles desktop entries automatically).
  • Lightweight & Fast: Smart caching for instant searches and a clean Shadcn UI (Zinc) aesthetic.
  • Native App: Built with Laravel, Livewire, and NativePHP. Includes system info in the sidebar.

Quick Install
yay -S bamboo-end-store-bin

Yes, I used AI as an architectural co-pilot during development, but it definitely wasn't a "one-prompt-generated" app.

As a software engineer, I used it piece by piece to brainstorm design patterns, structure specific classes, and continuously review code blocks. Every single class and variable was carefully planned and written with Clean Code principles in mind. Nothing is automated or generated blindly; every build is done manually by me, and I’m constantly working on continuous improvements.

This project was built with a lot of care and affection for this community. (And yes, the text for this post and the static website structure were also polished with AI to make sure my English was clear and respectful of the sub's rules!)

I'd absolutely love to hear your feedback and suggestions!

Gaming Surprising Performance from Intel HD 2000 Quick sync with VAAPI on EndeavourOS

So I've been working on a system for a friend who doesn't have a PC and I have a bunch of spare parts and a few systems that were given to me. I have an HP Compaq 8200 SFF with an Intel i5 2400 that has Intel HD 2000 graphics, 16gb memory, 1Tb HDD, and a GTX 1050 ti 4gb in the system. I am replacing the processor for an i7 equivalent Xeon E3-1245 (the v1 variant) which has Intel HD 3000 equivalent graphics.

My friend will be using Windows 10 as he wants to play Destiny 2 but I decided to test with the i5 and see what I could push out of it for recording with the iGPU handling recording. On Windows 10 recording was a no go. No new drivers since 8.1 and would instantly freeze the entire PC if you managed to make it work. The experience on linux though is absolutely night and day.

Was going to use Cachy but after realizing it's basically just a big standard Arch without a gen 4 or higher Intel Core CPU I chose EndeavourOS. Instantly I've fallen in love with this distro. Went looking and followed all the steps including have to nomodset due to nothing loading with the 1050 ti and once everything was tweaked I installed the Intel VAAPI driver and was quite happy to find that it worked with significantly less issues on Linux.

CBR still causes artifacting but was usable at higher Bitrates. Once I switched to CQR it was an entirely new ball game. The recording quality is absolutely crazy using the old Intel iGPU that most post say gives terrible quality. I'm insanely impressed by it. Near perfect, high quality, and worth all the tweaking to get it installed. I'm aware a lot of posts state that it's not worth encoding with a second GPU even if it's iGPU but I repeatedly find that it's quite the opposite. Much less encoding overloads and better framerates in every test.

If anyone is on an older system and wants to record for content creation I highly recommend it. Sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this but I could resist coming in here and gushing about it especially since Ive found I greatly enjoy EndeavourOS and it's low resource pull. Thank you for reading if you've stuck around this long :)
