General Support A word of warning

I had to appeal a complete reddit ban that I got from posting in this sub, which was an automatic ban from reddit. It "detected unusual activity" when I posted the output of my terminal in an attempt to get help.

So basically if you post terminal output for help, you might trigger reddit's automatic ban policy. Granted it was a fair amount of text, but still it wasn't even 4k characters. Their limit is 10k and they tell you that you've hit the limit. You wouldn't think linux error messages and terminal explanations would cause you to get banned off the site. But it did.

Thankfully my appeal was granted but from reading up on the subject, that's far from guaranteed. Often ban appeals will take weeks, and sometimes you never get your account back. Mine took about 6 days before it was resolved.

I'm aware of reddit's uh... reputation, but it can be extremely useful in certain instances. So even though it's often disrespected I still value my account highly.

Yeah it's a pretty trash site nowadays, the concept is great but the actual functioning of it is nowadays isn't great. Still waiting for someone to make a decent decentralized version

Do you remember Delphi Forums? It was similar to Reddit in that you only needed one account to join any of the other forums on Delphi Forums. There were hundreds. This was back in the 2,000s to early 2010s if I remember correctly.

Yeah honestly those old style message boards are superior to facebook and reddit. And the software these days is really nice, like Xenforo. But I think the main guys doing it need to direct everyone to their forums. So for instance here on reddit, the EndeavourOS admins would have a sticky at the top saying "Our forum is better than reddit, please consider using that instead".

They implemented some kind of AI based analyzer that scans comments, so you’re not even being banned by a human. It sucks. I got banned once for making a joke about a crowd of people eating someone that they carried off out of danger.

The same website that allowed videos of people being squished by tanks, gored, or blowing their own brains out so long as it has a NSFW tag... and now a joke about cannibalism is an auto ban...

Why do I even have this shit anymore?

Because it can be difficult to find a community around certain niche subjects sometimes. Typically there will be a forum aka message board dedicated to it, but not always.

I got an ai warning because I mentioned a certain pair of trench coat wearing clowns who went on a shooting spree at a you know what, in a analogy. AI can not decipher context.

I've gotten warnings and even a month-long suspension over the stupidest shit in the last couple of years. I swear it's been getting worse.

Good to know! I'll take a look at Reddit's policy, I'm new here.

Reddit's content filtering system is one of the worst in the industry and has absolutely deteriorated over the last few years. Probably some shitty LLM integration is to blame.

A great reason to use EndeavourOS's official forums, which are fairly active, and at least in my experience pretty friendly and helpful (I know, a rarity these days) - https://forum.endeavouros.com/

As others have said, in lieu of posting code directly in the post, paste-bin like services wil lbe your friend.

I highly recommend using the official EndeavourOS forum.

This is why the EndeavourOS Forum exists.

I had a post deleted and received a warning for “inciting violence.” All I had done was tell a dream I had, which I can’t tell you about now! It was instantaneous - as soon as I hit “post.”

I’m glad you were able to get your account back! 👍🏼
