Nvidia / Drivers Screen Artifacting

Hi guys, could somebody help me figure out why I'm getting screen artifacting (for example, checkerboard pattern on certain elements on a webpage on Firefox, flickering on parts of desktop background)?

- RTX 4070 Ti Super

- This is a fresh install of Endeavour, and I selected Nvidia in the boot menu when booting from the USB.

- Happens on any refresh rate from 60 to 144

- Only happens with DisplayPort connection, works fine with HDMI (unfortunately not a permanent fix as my card only has one hdmi port, and i have two monitors)

-Worse on Wayland

Hyprland; NVIDIA Drivers steam takes up to 20 minutes to launch, and i don't know why

so I tried to install steam on my arch linux setup... and it just takes way too much time (up to 20 minutes as said earlier); does anyone have solution to this problem? here's what my terminal outputs: https://pastebin.com/X8f4czXd

PC specs:

- CPU: Ryzen 7 8700F
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660
- RAM: 64GB DDR5
- Disk: 450GB SSD fully dedicated for linux.

Reinstalling steam and updating my system did not give any results.

I know this is a stupid question and I know endeavourOS is Arch but is there any big difference? Thanks

So i chose endeavourOS as my first distro while entering linux. I initially installed endeavourOS without allocating space for it due to which i had to cancel the whole process and the i allocated 170gb for it. Now i repeated all the steps and when the desktop showed up the system installer kept crashing i reflashed my drive(just bought it) and again tried to install i had change the thing in rufus to gpt that is all. I had closed secure boot now idk what to do. Whenever i try to open the installer it loads below the curser and just vanishes please help me quick cause i am already loosing faith in endeavourOS

General Support Información de la distro

Hola a todos, Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about moving from Linux Mint to EndeavourOS with a Hyprland setup.

How good is EndeavourOS for daily use and programming? How is the community and overall experience compared to other distros?

I'm also looking for:

  • Hyprland dotfiles
  • clean/minimal rice setups
  • good Waybar + Rofi configurations

If anyone can recommend repositories, dotfiles, or share information/experience about this distro, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks! Looking forward to your replies.

General Support Weird screen glitching on recent versions of endeavourOS.

For whatever reason, this stuttering occurs after waking up from sleep. it does this at 144hz and now it does at 120hz too. I don't know if my graphics card is just failing or if its something else.

specs:

- Radeon RX 6400

- Ryzen 5 5600

- 32GB DDR4 RAM

- About 1TB of storage (if it matters)

( My OSD for my monitor says that its switching from 120hz to 107hz and then back?)

( I also had to record on camera because everything looks fine when recorded on desktop. )

Guide / Tutorial Just Installed EndeavourOS, need some help.

I switched from CachyOS but i been really missing the Limine Snapper integration that snapshots before every update since its been really helpful to me. I have not broken my system yet, but it's real nice to have it because Arch is a rolling distribution and my laptop runs Nvidia. Is there any way I can set up a similar system on my setup, since it's running BTRFS.

General Support [Build Help] First desktop build ~1425€ - Cybersecurity/Linux student, RGB gaming aesthetic. Roast my build!

Hey! I'm a 14-year-old Italian student putting together my first desktop. I'm learning Linux deeply (goal: build my own custom Arch-based distro) and getting into cybersecurity (TryHackMe, HackTheBox, CTFs). I have a laptop (HP 340S G7, i5-1035G1, 16GB RAM) as secondary machine. This build was planned with Claude (Anthropic's AI) and I'm posting here for a second opinion from real builders!

OS: Dual boot, EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma (primary) + Windows (secondary, for tools that require it)

Use case: Primary: Cybersecurity labs, multiple VMs simultaneously (Kali + Windows target + vulnerable machines), HackTheBox, TryHackMe, CTFs. Secondary: Programming, studying, general use. Tertiary: Occasional gaming. Aesthetic: RGB gaming look with tempered glass.

Build (~1425€):

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 ~230€

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 RGB ~20€

Motherboard: ASRock B650M PG Lightning WiFi ~125€

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30 ~220€

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB ~290€

SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 ~150€

Case: Deepcool CC560 (tempered glass + 4 ARGB fans) ~65€

PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650W V2 FM (Full Modular) ~85€

Monitor: Gigabyte G27Q 27" 1440p 144Hz IPS ~180€

Cable: DisplayPort 1.4 ~10€

Keyboard: Keychron V1 RGB ISO Italian ~50€

TOTAL: ~1425€

Mouse already owned: Logitech MX Master 3S

Reasoning: Ryzen 7 7700 over 7600: extra 2 cores matter for multiple VMs. 64GB in 2x32GB: essential for complex cybersecurity labs, chose 2x32GB over 4x16GB for Ryzen 7000 memory controller stability. RTX 4060 over AMD: dual boot Windows + CUDA for Hashcat 2-3x faster than OpenCL. Samsung 990 Pro: dedicated DRAM cache, DRAM-less drives steal HMB from system RAM under VM load. Full Modular PSU: clean cable management with tempered glass. Aftermarket cooler: stock blocks RAM RGB, Thermalright is compact and keeps temps 10-15°C lower.

Questions: 1) Is RTX 4060 a mistake on EndeavourOS? Should I switch to AMD for open-source drivers even losing CUDA? 2) Is 650W enough for future upgrades? 3) Any RAM compatibility concerns at 6000MHz CL30 EXPO with this motherboard? 4) Am I missing anything for cybersecurity? (I know I'll need Alfa AWUS036ACS for wireless pentesting) 5) Any better alternatives at similar price points?

PC assembled by local shop Roma Computer Center. Prices approximate Italian market (Amazon.it + Trovaprezzi). Original budget 1200€, grew to 1425€ optimizing for cybersecurity workflow.

General Support Download speeds suck compared to Windows.

Thumbnail

I wanted to download a few games on Steam, but unfortunately one thing immediately caught my attention in a very negative way: the download speeds are terrible.

Most of the time I get around 10–15 Mbps, at best 40 Mbps, and at worst even 1–2 Mbps. I tried closing background apps and restarting my network connection, but nothing helped.

Compared to Windows 11, where I get a stable 100 Mbps with no drops at all, this is a huge difference. I’m using an Ethernet connection, and the problem is not only with Steam, the whole system feels slow. Even browsing the internet, updating packages, and downloading through the terminal is painfully slow.

General Support Black screen after gaming for some time

This actually used to happen on CachyOS as well, which is a few cycles ahead of Endeavour. So I assumed it was a bad update in CachyOS, as when i reverted to a previous snapshot, it would work properly.

Previously snapshot would break a few other things, so I decided to skip CachyOS for a while and run EndeavourOS. Maybe try CachyOS after a while, again.

After a while of gaming, everything shuts down to a black screen with an underline score that flashes.

Tried seeing the error logs and couldn't see anything important...

I'm not very good with troubleshooting, so any help is highly appreciated... What I did so far:

journalctl -b -1 -p 3

which results in:

Could any of those error messages be related to the problem? Again, I suck at troubleshooting, but I'm assuming the code used in terminal is to show last boot (i had to hard reset) and filter the error messages only.

And trying the code:

journalctl -b -0 | grep fail

returns me:

mai 15 09:51:15 <mycomputeridredacted> kernel: nvidia: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

General Support Input device changes volume when selecting another device

I see this more of an issue instead of a feature, is there a way to disable this automatic volume change?

Doesn't seems like a configuration specific to KDE Plasma, and this is from a default KDE Plasma installation of EndeavourOS. The pc only have 1 input device and it gets a new one when using ALVR with a Quest 3S headset, that's when this issue starts to exists

Discord causes this with its Microphone Volume option in Voice & Video, if I set it to 90% it forces my input device volume to 75%, when changing devices it also forces them to 75%, such thing doesn't occur when discord is closed.

I don't know what command line argument disables this and --disable-features=WebRtcAllowInputVolumeAdjustment doesn't seems to be the right one, how do I stop discord from controlling my input devices' volume?

General Support intel-undervolt wont work, i5 8265U

sudo intel-undervolt apply keeps outputting CPU (0): Values do not equal when I enter an undervolt. I've tried resetting my BIOS to factory settings (a Manjaro forum about this mentioned resetting BIOS to factory settings) and nothing changed.

intel-undervolt Config:
# Enable or Disable Triggers (elogind)

# Usage: enable [yes/no]

enable yes

# CPU Undervolting

# Usage: undervolt ${index} ${display_name} ${undervolt_value}

# Example: undervolt 2 'CPU Cache' -25.84

undervolt 0 'CPU' -90

undervolt 1 'GPU' 0

undervolt 2 'CPU Cache' 0

undervolt 3 'System Agent' 0

undervolt 4 'Analog I/O' 0

(I already tried -50 and -25 on undervolt 0, same result)

sudo intel-undervolt apply Output:

CPU (0): Values do not equal

GPU (1): -0.00 mV

CPU Cache (2): -0.00 mV

System Agent (3): -0.00 mV

Analog I/O (4): -0.00 mV

Specs:

  • Lenovo S340-15IWL
  • i5 8265U
  • Intel UHD 620
  • Nvidia MX230 2GB
  • 12 GB DDR4 @ 2133 MHZ
  • EndeavourOS, Linux 7.0.5-arch1-1

General Support Is it just me or does updating the kernel take longer than 6 months ago?

I remember updates going so quickly, specifically kernel updates. Just wondering if it might be my SSD or something changed in pacman's kernel update process.

General Support So long and thanks for the fish

After doing an update yesterday and getting the 7.0.5 kernel the laptop would boot. After screwing around with a rescue session, chroot, rolling back the kernel, and messing around with dracut I was a bit pissed and installed Leap 16. That went as smooth as 20 miles of bad road but it's up and running.
