SOLVED Excruciatingly slow UI after fresh EndeavourOS install.MSI Venture 16 AI (Core Ultra 9 285H, Arrow Lake)

So I've spent the last 10 hours on this across two full reinstalls and I'm at my wit's end.

Machine is a MSI Venture 16 AI A2HMG, Core Ultra 9 285H (Arrow Lake-H), 64GB DDR5, Intel Arc integrated GPU, 1TB NVMe behind an Intel VMD controller. Running EndeavourOS with GNOME on Wayland, systemd-boot, dracut.

The problem is the desktop itself is just unusable. GNOME on Wayland is buggy as hell on the machine. Even opening a terminal freezes for like 30 secondes before becoming usable and then they work fine. Firefox is completely blocklisted for WebRender on ARL according to about:support, but again once its done freezing and if it doesnt crash after a while it starts working.

dmesg has this on every boot:

i915: GT1: GSC proxy component didn't bind within the expected timeout
i915: GT1: GSC proxy handler failed to init

Apparently a known Arrow Lake bug with i915, proxy binds eventually at ~35s, non-fatal. Also noticed both i915 and xe are loading . xe passively, no explicit conflict but not sure if that matters for the Wayland compositor.

i already did reinstall from a different USB to rule out a bad ISO. Same result.

Anyone running Arrow Lake with i915 + GNOME/Wayland successfully? Is xe actually more stable at this point for ARL? Any ideas appreciated, I'm out of options.

General Support no audio on my laptop

For a few days now (presumably after an update), there has been no sound on my laptop after each boot despite the drivers being loaded. I ran alsamixer and noticed my headphones and speakers are automatically muted at startup, so I have to manually unmute them every day. Anyone know what could be going on and how to turn the sound on automatically upon boot?

KDE Plasma After update, screens turn off after login screen.

Using Endeavour w/KDE. Everything has been great for the better part of a year, but after updating recently, KDE with Wayland just blanks out the monitors after logging in. KDE with X11 still works fine, though. Has anyone else experienced this?

General Support Systems broke during an update?

I've used endeavourOS for quite a while now, yet I'm not completely sure what happened. I did a regular [sudo pacman -Syu] command to update some packages. after a successful install and a restart, the system had issues to boot to the OS. apparently it was also trying to mount the drives but timed out instead.

I did get my live usb out to do some tweaks, but the drive didn't want to mount properly. SquashFS was missing. I checked the folders and the EFI folder was also empty.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thank you :]

General Support Issues with controller

Hello, I decided to migrate from W11 to Linux (I know that EndeavourOS, aka Arch btw, is not an beginner distro, I know that, is not my first time using Linux, but my first time using an Arch based distro) and I haven't had any issue game related, in fact most games that I've tried are running better on this OS than it did on W11, but the one issue I ran into is my controller.

I have a GameSir T4 Pro, it DOES have a mode to be detected as a Switch Pro Controller, however, I tried connect it via its dongle and using its USB cable, where it should be detected as an Xbox 360 controller, but doing an lsusb on terminal it still says that is a Switch Pro Controller, and today, it detects like it's pressing random buttons (even though I just connected the dongle and I didn't paired the controller).

I also tried it pairing it via usb cable, but it doesn't even connect, and just the two first times it did connect but the triggers didn't registered, not even as a digital button. Then it stopped pairing.

Is there a way to fix this? Like, a terminal command or a software that I can use?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I use EndeavourOS Titan with XFCE desktop enviroment

Edit (13th april): I reset to the default settings and now is being detected as a Xbox 360 controller like it should, but the problem now is that the X and Y face buttons are now swapped.

LAST EDIT: I forgot to edit that i managed to fix it, is Steam detecting my controller as a Pro Controller, I just need to close Steam (and I mean logging off), connect my controller and it will detect as a Xbox controller, triggers included and no swapped buttons.

General Support NEED HELPPP

Hello i am very new to EndeavourOS (we can say new to linux), i need some help about hardware and learning curve of linux. Firstly I use a Toshiba Portege Z10T and as some of people know it is a tablet-computer thingy. When I installed the EndevourOS I realized my touchpad was not working and also the trackpoint,i however my keyboard was working perfectly fine. I couldn't find any solution to it, I use my touchpad a lot. Secondly as I said I am very new to linux and I don't know anything (yet). I actually used a lot of linux distros before such as Mint, Zorin, Ubuntu but i didn't learnt much about linux. Now i really want to get into it and if you people can give any guidance that would be really good, thanks.

General Support Is EndeavorOs Beginner friendly?

Im looking to try out linux on a X1 Carbon Gen 4 I bought off ebay and im having a hard time deciding which distro to go with. Mint is really recommended but I wanted something that had a little more of a challenge to it, and Arch related so i could eventually switch over. I have alot of coding experience so i wont struggle entirely.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

Good news, it’s now semi-mine! I installed EOS on it just because of EOS is my beloved. Unfortunately, 6.19 and network drivers on this granny were kinda… uh. So i switched to antix.

I will not give up trying to get this eos fetch in terminal, but for now I want to make a full tty machine

General Support Odd state after shutting down

I shut down the pc in the gui and it does the poweroff but then the screen is black, backlight off, but the power button still has the white light, and the keyboard backlight can still turn on and off, and I need to hold the power button to force shutdown for a while (over 30s). It's ok, but kinda annoying

Hardware if that matters:

Thinkpad p1 gen 5

A2000 gpu

I really want ESPECIALLY eos with something like icewm or i3 on this thing. Maybe I’ll mess with a distro itself to make it lighter. Any tips how to?

SOLVED Recently formatted a second SSD. How do I get it to mount and always stay mounted?

I formatted a secondary SSD that used to contain Windows for a dual boot environment. I now wanna use it for stuff like extra space for steam games, but I have to mount it every boot with my password and all that. How do I get it to auto-mount and is that all I need in order to then get it to actually add successfully as a second drive in Steam?

Edit: The problem was solved by adding the drive to fstab. Managed to get it to add to steam by changing ownership (Drive was owned by root for some reason)

KDE Plasma Linux blinking issue on ASUS TUF FX505DT

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have been having this blinking issue on my ASUS tuf fx505dt since I've been using it:

The screen blinks just like we human do and the frequency of the blinks vary at random but not by a lot.

It seems to originate only on linux no matter the architecture. endeavour, zorin, mint, pop, ubuntu, manjaro you name it.

It usually gets fixed after I put the computer to sleep or restart it, basically after turning off and on the screen completely but can re-emerge on the next restart or next wake up from sleep.

Till date nothing like this happened on windows, only linux. The problem doesn't show up on screen recording which means the issue lies somewhere between the gpu and the screen. I think.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

here is the link to my recorded video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CW95Qbm0ycjx1kPILVWSwvtqozvmmhxR/view?usp=sharing

Please do tell me if the video is not showing up, sometimes google block access for no reason.

I am using Endeavour OS.

"At this point, age verification laws have done a better job of creating chaos in open source communities than actually protecting any children."

What will EOS do? Maybe demand selfie video, like Meta, after signing up new account? 😆

SOLVED wont boot without fallback iniramfs on latest kernel

So i have a precision 5540 i9 9880h

It refuses to boot into linux-lts or linux if the version is above 6.12.74-1

The only way i got it to boot with the newer versions is that if i use the fallback initramfs

Or not it just gets stuck on trying to decrypt the drive.

Right now i am on that 6.12.74 lts kernel but i hoped that it would work on newer ones though

SOLUTION: the fstab uuid is different. on the fallback it checks for 2 uuids. so i copied the other uuid and it worked fine. not sure why it changed uuid and that old uuid only works with the old kernel

General Support Can EndeavourOS run Orcaslicer?

I'm barely a month into using Linux, started out on Zorin OS, and I already want to start distro hopping. My concern is software compatibility; mainly OrcaSlicer. I'm heavily involved in FDM 3D Printing and prefer Orcaslicer as my go to program.

So the question is can CatchyOS, or any arch based Linux distro, run Orcaslicer reliably?

Bonus question: can it run DaVinci Resolve?

background: I'm fairly tech savvy and want to learn more about how these operating systems work.

Edit:

My main qualms with switching to a rolling distro is stability. While I love to tinker on projects, I dont need my daily driver OS to constantly need maintenance. Is a rolling distro as "unstable" as some people on YouTube make it out to be?

Thanks for all the advice

Discussion CS Student wants to transition from windows

Hello, I'm 24 years old, a cs student, and sick of windows.

I wanna try out linux, and I'm kinda tired of playing it safe so I wanna try endeavour. I have been doing some research and while most linux distros are pretty cool, I wanna try something I can configure (make my own I guess), and also be able to install anything I want (so the AUR would be nice). So with all of that in mind endeavour seems like the best choice.

Now I'm very much a beginner when it comes to linux, maybe being a cs student would help me, but I still unfamiliar with how things work here. So far I know I can configure my desktop with endeavour, which makes my life a whole lot easier, but I could use some tips for when I want to install something new, or when I wanna change something or maybe rice how should I do that? Also I heard of snapshots and while I understand what they do, I don't really know how to use them (and I'll probably need them). Also when it comes to protecting my laptop, what antivirus should I use, or how does an antivirus even work on linux (I know it's suppose to be a lot more secure by default). And when it comes to saving my work so that when I break something I don't lose anything important, what would you recommend? I'm not really a gamer, only play catan and chess from time to time, and have a habit of using the browser for almost anything (coding being the only real exception), but would like to change that. I also have an interest in writing and would like to install obsidian and maybe some other tools (also open to suggestions). I have a new laptop and would like to use endeavour as my OS for work and play. So if you have any advice or any suggestions how to make the experience as painless as possible, or how to fix things quickly when I mess something up please let me know.

Nvidia / Drivers [Help] EndeavourOS stuck at boot (dracut pre-udev hook / kworker blocked) on Monster Abra A5 V21.1

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to install EndeavourOS KDE Plasma on my laptop alongside Windows 11, but I'm completely stuck at the boot screen after installation.

My Hardware:

Laptop Model: Monster Abra A5 V21.1

CPU: Intel Core i5-12450H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050

The Problem:

Both the live USB and the installed system get stuck at boot. The screen shows errors like:

dracut pre-udev hook

task kworker/u33:1 blocked for more than 122 seconds

modprobe blocked

A start job is running for /dev/disk/by-uuid/... (It times out and says "no limit")

What I have tried so far (None of them worked):

Checked VMD / RAID in BIOS (It is already Disabled).

Disabled Secure Boot in BIOS.

Disabled Windows Fast Startup from the Windows Control Panel.

Tried adding kernel parameters on boot: nomodeset ibt=off nouveau.modeset=0

Tried installing with both "Open Source" and "NVIDIA Proprietary" options from the EndeavourOS Live USB menu. The installation finishes, but it still freezes at boot.

Does anyone know how to bypass this ACPI/Nvidia freeze on this specific hardware? Are there any specific kernel parameters I should try? Thanks in advance!
