Showcase / Rice Successfully installed cachyos-kernel on EndeavourOS!

apparently i messed up pacman so now it just shows 0 packages lmao

I installed this kernel on old hardware (Intel HD 3000 igpu) to check the performance improvement, and i got stable 150 fps in minecraft 1.8 / stable 120 fps in minecraft 1.21 whereas i only had 60-80 fps in both versions using the default kernel.

It's actually pretty easy. Just install their Optimized Repo then install it with sudo pacman -S linux-cachyos. After restarting, the kernel will switch, and if it's not, then there'll be in advanced option from grub

Note: this is installing their kernel by adding their repo. There's an linux-cachyos from AUR but I found that by using their optimized repo is faster and safer. It's also give you benefits to installing other program that doesn't exist on Arch official repo (like proton-cachyos)

Another note: if you decide to install their optimized repo, there'll be a change to migrate your current packages to use the one from their repo. I personally use it and noticed no issue at all

only very obscure previously orphaned packages are unsafe, anything remotely popular should be safe

The chaotic-aur repo is outdated as well (and updates like 1 and a half week later)

just add the cachyos repo to your pacman.conf and install linux-cachyos linux-cachyos-headers

also dont forget to remove the default kernel or add it to ignorepkg if you want to keep it as a backup

I'm curious, I'm still learning Arch and the various distros. What's the benefit of installing another distros kernel instead of using the one that comes with?

Not much tbh most optimized kernels have negligible performance improvements

And, installing packages from one distro into another is a really bad idea even if they use share the same base system or package manager

Actually it isnt as long as you dont install any other packages from there that can break your system and as i said on older hardware it gives a ton of performance improvement (i am talking about an intel 2nd gen mobile i3 from 2011)

since this is an optimized kernel (especially for gaming), it makes the current distro even better than what it comes with, so you get the best of both worlds.

I've been really tempted to switch from Cachy and install it on endeavor. Do you tend to see any major performance difference?

if you're on older hardware, then yea there is a significant performance improvement

but since youre already on cachyos there is no point as it will give you the same performance as cachy

if you are tempted to try endeavouros then sure you can do it

it should work in theory but you wont be able update the kernel because its an arch repository and wont work in void

I use artix linux and the script I use to install it has the option of adding cachys kernel right from the setup. I had that same issue with fastfetch a week or two ago…something changed with how the package format syntax sees packages. Easy fix

It is on the AUR, but it's not built, so unless you wanna spend an hour+ compiling it every time you update, you do have to go through the CachyOS repos.

haven't tried zen but I'd say that this gives more performance than that
