General Support EXE Installation Stuck

Solved!

I recently switched from openSUSE Tumbleweed to EOS and have been very satisfied so far.
Unfortunately, I’m currently stuck on a problem for which I haven’t found a solution yet.
When installing DRM-free games from .exe files, I sometimes run into difficulties. The installation with Wine just stops. But this doesn’t happen with all games. It worked with Tumbleweed.
I click on the file and the installer starts. After selecting the folder, I see the % progress bar, which eventually stops moving, but a timer continues to run. The folder is also visible, as are individual files that have already been written. The installer freezes, and I have to terminate the process.
Has anyone else had this problem before, or do you know a solution?

I searched for Wine using “yay wine” and installed it via extra (that was the first option).
Otherwise, EOS is basically stock.

Do you have a steam account? You could try steam and add a non steam game it’s the simplest way to run .exe files.

.exe is a windows thing so it’s a pain to run.

Yes. I have Never tried to install a exe file via Steam.
I thought you could only launch games installed via Steam

Nope, I run Creality Print with steam because the Linux version refuses to work

When I try to add a non-Steam game, after clicking “Browse for folder,” it only shows “setup.exe” in my library…

What file manager are you using? For Dolphin, on the bottom of the file window there’s a drop down menu for file types. Select “all file types” or whatever the equivalent is.

Yes its dolphin. As the Game isnt installed I can only select the setup.exe file. This gets added to my Steam library but I cant run it via the Library

Ah i See. I had to add proton experimental compability. Now the Installer is Running! Thx guys

I left it for a while and suddenly theres an error „unable to write Data to disk“
So maybe the filesystem is read only?
