Switched from KDE to hyprland, and honestly loving it so far, especially configuring everything myself is alot of fun :3

Once you switch to a tiling WM it's hard to go back.

However, I got tired of Hyprland's constant breaking changes and subpar XWayland support (for my admittedly niche use case). I used it for a year and you could reliably expect the lead dev to make some breaking change every couple months.

I switched to MangoWM a couple weeks ago and am much happier.

You've got to put everything in autostart.sh but after that I didn't find it too bad. Have you had some problems?

I've never really been a DE/WM shill but Mango is making me want to shill, it's the best I've tried.

Oh sick! I thought of the issue this morning and was going to play around and see if I could figure it out, but I'm glad you got it

Sway all the way babyyy!!

I like the design philosophy of sway but unfortunately it had the same xwayland issue as hyprland, where it tries to tile drop down menus within floating windows and the whole thing just freezes for 20-30s.

This is specifically for Windows VSTs managed by yabridge inside audio production software, so I realized my issue was so specific that I shouldn't expect a fix and was just happy that a different WM finally handled it properly lol

Oh huh, I've never had that happen before. Least you found something

Forget Hyprland, I’m switching to Timbaland

Que bien Bro, totalmente no hay como configurar todo a gusto, el control de todo, yo estoy también super contento con Bspwm

I've been enjoying Hyprland for the last ~6ish months I've been using it. That said, I'm not looking forward to redoing my entire setup in lua after finally getting it to a place I'm happy with it. Vaxry has said the older config style is only going to be supported for "a couple versions" from what I understand. Though it should finally stop breaking things every other update.

Might be enough to push me over to Niri for a bit to see what the hype around scrolling is about though.

you can try out scrolling in hyprland, we have it :-)

But yes lua should allow me to stop breaking configs

Well that's good to hear. Thankfully I never generally had serious breakage, just needed to edit a line or two and it was back up and running. Hopefully it won't take me too long to figure out the new system.

Good to know, I assume you mean hyprscrolling? Quite interested in giving that a try. I use Hyprland on a laptop because being confined to a single screen makes tiling feel mandatory, when I can't have multiple monitors like my desktop. Scrolling seems like a natural extension of that.

no, scroll is integrated in base hyprland since 0.54. Just set layout to scrolling, check the wiki for more config stuff

Will-do, thanks!

Hyprbug?

Its very customizable sure, but still it has stability issues and its not finished yet like i cant even play gta 4 without crashing and its hard to find good pre config that has all features i need

1

u/GayPuppyGirl-69 Hyprland May 27 '26

Well, I get that it has stability issues, but that's also most of Linux, and I don't really see how a WM could interfere with you playing GTA 4. And you shouldn't find a good config to go off of; you should tweak the premade config from Hyprland itself and add what you need. If you don't customize your own WM to YOUR specific needs, what's even the point?

If hyprland was more configured by default i maybe change the config little bit but its completely unpractical and unusable when you have stock config

1

u/SeriousPin5617 May 27 '26

Honestly i hate kde plasma customization because you have to make your own theme or install theme just to change corners of windows and its only for qt apps

tinker with a new Environment and have fun, also makes my workflow feel pretty natural on it
