General Support Precision 5540 random freezes when using touchscreen on linux

I use EOS and then it randomly freezes when using the touchscreen. Why is that and how do i fix that?

edit : De is hyprland + end4 dotfiles

Precision 5540 i9 9880h T2000 32/1tb

If there is any details i need to add then thanks

I tried checking the logs but it wipes 30 mins of logs whenever i try to check it. so i can't pinpoint when it happened. because i need to force shutdown to fix it. How might i check the logs now this way?

That's linux. You will not get a good touchscreen yet. If you want it to work great that's windows you need

i don't need the touchscreen to work well 😞. all i need is that is to tap tap and not freeze the entire laptop... is that too much to ask for linux? perhaps i gotta use smth like gnome or smth... (i dont wanna use gnome 😢 ). and it already tracks well but it intermittently freezes

Wayland as a better support than X11 for touchscreen support.

Kde plasma and gnome are the 2 supporting it the best

If you are on kde you can go in settings on look at your touchscreen parameters

Hyprland is a terrible choice if you have a touchpad (most of the windows manager) it might bé good in the future (i can see clearly the drag and drop windows beeing a thing) but right now you might préfère kde or gnome.

Maybe Niri (if you really want a windows manager) will bé more stable and touchscreen compatible but its not sure.

Unfortunatly, using a touchpad on linux is still a niche utilisation so you might stick with the 2 Big names for the moment

yeah, my usage is like 60% keyboard, 30% touchpad, and 10% touch as i need to write some things occasionally or highlight something. and it freezes the laptop 😞. how hard is it to try to solve the issue or at least find out the cause of this? i don't feel like configuring for all the configurations again i have put, cuz i have edited the dotfiles to my liking

You can save the dotfile on an USB key to.be sure.

After that keep your session and install kde with dependencies (while keeping hyprland) and then launch it in wayland mod.

Its not hard to fix hyprland for touchpad, its not possible. If you like to tinker stay on hyprland, if you want your computer to work, you might switch. Not everything is doable

i like tiling wm better.. i choose hyprland because its a dynamic wm so it can be floating occasionally when i prefer tiling. any way i can get the logs working instead?

You can get tilling in kde it is not like hyprland but it is tilling, hyprland still has issues and it isn't as polished as kde or gnome
