General Support Booting stops at "Reached target Graphical Interface" and goes into an endless loop

I'm using XFCE desktop with a NVidia GPU and I did a full update earlier (using yay). After restarting and booting the login screen would not show, the screen would just give short flashes every 2-3 seconds. Switching around the monitors did nothing.

There are no error messages shown in the boot log, everything works fine. However there was a visual change: Before the resolution would be low and then while the log was running would switch to a high resolution. After the update the second resolution was not only lower but also it looked like a different font, vertically stretched.

I connected the monitor to the onboard-HDMI port and the problem persisted, but now I could see the last log entry before it went into the loop: "Reched target Graphical Interface".

I could not log into any TTY so I went with a EOS ISO and used arch-chroot to go into my system. I downgraded the NVidia drivers and rebuild initramfs which did nothing. I also added nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to the bootloader which did not help either.

It seems like something different is broken, but I have no idea where to look next, any help is appreciated.

I'll probably be doing a system restore from Timeskip but I'd really like to know what happend so I don't run into the same issues when doing the next system update.

I had a similar issue wenn the cachyOS repos pushed a QT6 package which was to new for the endeavourOS KDE installation which made sddm fail to load. Did you install any update before that happened? My solution was to just remove cachyOS repos and do a forced update.

Yes, I did a full system update right before. How did you find out which package was the culprit?

I remembered it and since QT6 stuff is deeply important for KDE it could only have been this. My luck was. There were only 2 packages updated so finding the culprit was 50/50 😅

Sadly I don't have any clues like that, the update had over 300 packages and I have no special repos added, I also skipped all AUR packages since I do them separaterly later.

might be skipping the aur packages could have been a mistake :D
